Dakota Fanning Reveals How Lil Wayne Reacted to Her Viral Rap of Shoes Song
Lil Wayne is a milli percent on board with Dakota Fanning’s secret life as a rapper.
After the All Her Fault actress shocked fans by rapping the musician’s 2009 hit “Watch My Shoes” bar for bar in a video shared to social media, she revealed at the 2026 Emmy Awards that Lil Wayne was just as impressed with her performance.
“I got the stamp of approval from Lil Tunechi on Instagram,” Dakota exclusively told Justin Sylvester in a joint interview with her sister Elle Fanning during Live From E!: 2026 Emmys Sept. 14. “He loved it. It was a big deal. I was pinching myself.”
“If I could have told my 16-year-old self in the back of my best friend's car, going to a party in high school, that one day Lil Wayne will see you rapping this song and then DM you and say that he loved it,” she added, “I was like freaking out beyond.”
But it wouldn’t be the only major impression the sisters have made on their peers as of late. After all, Elle recently taught her Margo’s Got Money Troubles costar Nicole Kidman what OnlyFans was—and revealed what the Oscar winner thought.
“She was like, ‘Oh, Wow,’” the 28-year-old recalled, mimicking an Australian accent before gushing, “She’s the best. I mean, she's a producer on Margo's Got Money Troubles, and she was such a champion of the show from the very start of assembling the whole team.”
Naturally, knowing about the subscription-based platform was helpful in adapting Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel, which follows a young single mother who launches an OnlyFans account to make ends meet.

“She’s in it as well,” Elle continued of Nicole, “So, she helps my character in a big way, and she's someone that is very close to both of us. We both worked with her multiple times.”
However, their next costars may be the best yet as the sisters recently worked together on the film adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale, an experience Dakota, 32, emphasized made them “closer than ever.”
She explained, “I think we got closer and didn't know that was possible.”
And Elle echoed the sentiment.
“We already couldn't be closer, but that was a pretty magical, special experience for us,” the Sentimental Value star noted. “We stayed in the same apartment together while filming.”

Even so, sisters will be sisters.
“I think we only had like a couple fights,” Elle admitted on Live from E!, “and like one of them was also about laundry and doing the dishes.”
Another project they’ll be working on together is Paris Hilton’s biopic. As for whether they’ll star in the film as Paris and her sister Nicky Hilton?
“Everyone asks. It's too early,” Dakota said. “It's still in development, still being worked on. So, it’s a great project to be involved with and Paris is an amazing person, and we're lucky to call her a friend.”
