Dragon Ball is a franchise synonymous with excitement, and the forms in the series are a major reason why. There's not another series in the world of anime better known for jaw-dropping transformations, but after decades upon decades of Dragon Ball, it can be hard to identify which forms in the franchise are the strongest.
There are almost too many forms in Dragon Ball to count, and that's not including the obscure Dragon Ball forms that fall in the main canon. Thankfully, most forms in Dragon Ball are linear, meaning evolved versions are stronger than their predecessors.
Super Saiyan Blue Evolved/Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken
Super Saiyan Blue Evolved and Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken are the strongest versions of the Super Saiyan form shown in the Dragon Ball franchise. What started as the regular Super Saiyan form was taken to heights nobody could have seen coming.
"Strength-wise please think of it as about the same as Goku’s Blue Kaio-Ken." - Ishitani on Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form.
These forms are equal in strength according to Dragon Ball Super director Megumi Ishitani. It makes sense, as both Goku and Vegeta found their own ways to take the Super Saiyan Blue form to its highest level.
Ultra Instinct Sign
Ultra Instinct is one of the best things to happen to the Dragon Ball franchise. When the form first came to Dragon Ball Super, it broke the internet, letting the world know that Dragon Ball was far from over.
Ultra Instinct Sign is one of the most powerful forms in Dragon Ball, and it's not even the most powerful version of Ultra Instinct. Goku unlocked this form in the Tournament of Power, and he's only gotten stronger since.
Super Full Power
Jiren is easily one of the strongest villains in anime. He dominated the Tournament of Power barely using a shred of his own power, and when he actually started trying, it looked like Universe 7 was going to lose.
Super Full Power Jiren is the warrior's strongest form. His muscles increase massively, he gains an ominous red aura, and if it wasn't for Mastered Ultra Instinct, this form would've ended the Tournament of Power in Jiren's favor immediately.
Legendary Super Saiyan
The Legendary Super Saiyan form is one of the rarest in Dragon Ball. There are only two confirmed Legendary Super Saiyans in Dragon Ball: Kale from Universe 6 and Broly from Universe 7.
The Legendary Super Saiyan form is basically a cheat code. With this form, Broly was able to take Super Saiyan Blue Goku on in battle with ease, and there's still more to come from the behemoth of a Saiyan.
True Ultra Instinct
True Ultra Instinct is one of the most interesting forms in Dragon Ball. Goku hasn't used the Ultra Instinct forms much, and it's clear that he's still experimenting with them. True Ultra Instinct is Goku's way of using the Ultra Instinct form while still using his own emotions in battle.
Mastered Ultra Instinct puts Goku in a trance-like state, allowing his body to act on its own, emotionlessly. In True Ultra Instinct, however, Goku still gets excited while he fights, and who knows if this is going to be his preferred state going forward.
Orange Piccolo
Orange Piccolo is the form Piccolo has deserved for a long time. He hasn't been one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball for a while, but his Orange form puts him towards the top of the rankings once again.
Shenron gave him a boost in strength, and even Piccolo didn't realize that the boost would be this monumental. His Orange form allows him to wipe the floor with Gamma 2, who Piccolo said was as strong as Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta. He's not just anime's biggest aura farmer anymore: Piccolo is one of the strongest characters around.
Ultra Ego
The Ultra Ego form is something only Vegeta could achieve. It allows him to tap into his massive ego for an equally massive power boost, finally letting Vegeta obtain a similar level of strength as Goku's Ultra Instinct.
Vegeta was never going to be able to use the Ultra Instinct form as it requires its user to submit fully to the form itself. Instead of using the Angelic ability, Vegeta leans into the Gods of Destruction, getting stronger as he takes damage. He may not use the form anymore, so who knows what's next for the Prince of all Saiyans.
Mastered Ultra Instinct
Mastered Ultra Instinct is the strongest form of the Autonomous Ultra Instinct technique/form in Dragon Ball. It's a form that the Angels use, showing that Goku has truly trespassed into the domain of the Gods.
Goku can only use this form for a little bit, and it might not suit his fighting style perfectly. He used this form in the Tournament of Power, but later in the Dragon Ball Super manga, he used True Ultra Instinct instead. Like Vegeta, Goku may be finding a new way to use divine power that doesn't require him to follow in someone else's footsteps.
Gohan Beast
Custom image created by Evan D. MullicaneGohan's Beast form is a form nobody could have seen coming. Even the gods themselves barely have an idea as to how Gohan was able to unleash this unreasonable awesome power, and it looks like Goku's firstborn son has skipped divine forms altogether.
Gohan has been the strongest hero in Dragon Ball a few times throughout the franchise: he was the strongest in the Cell Saga, the strongest in the Buu Saga, and now, it looks like he's the strongest again.
The only thing Gohan is truly lacking is experience. This form gives him more raw power than both Ultra Ego and Ultra Instinct, but Goku and Vegeta have so much more experience in battle that he'd still probably lose to them both. If Gohan trains, however, there's no way either of them can handle this outlandishly powerful form.
Black Frieza
Custom Image by Rodrigo Sandoval Lahut. Unfortunately for the heroes in Dragon Ball, the strongest form in the series is Frieza's brutal Black form. Frieza has always been one of the most intimidating villains in anime, and this form shows that he's not going anywhere anytime soon.
Frieza famously never trained before he met Goku in Dragon Ball Z. After just four months of training, he was able to achieve his Golden form, a form nearly equal to Super Saiyan Blue. After ten years of training in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Frieza was able to achieve his Black form.
Black Frieza knocked out both Ultra Ego Vegeta and Ultra Instinct Goku with a single punch. He's so much stronger than he used to be that it barely makes sense, and the Z Fighters are going to have to come up with something amazing if they're going to take Frieza down again.
