This past week, hit-maker Taylor Sheridan found himself in the odd position of having to promote a show that, in all probability, will outlast him on the Paramount+ streaming service. Sheridan's The Madison premiered to solid viewership over the weekend, despite slightly lukewarm reviews. The prolific producer famously severed ties with Paramount following a change in leadership and is heading to NBCUniversal in a few years. By then, most of his blockbuster shows will have ended their runs. Over the years, Sheridan has created not only the sprawling Yellowstone franchise but also the hit crime dramas Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King. However, one of his shows remains largely overlooked despite featuring a star-stacked cast. That show recently had a resurgence on Paramount+ in the wake of The Madison's successful debut.

The show in question premiered with an eight-episode season in 2023 and returned for eight more episodes the following year. It features perhaps the most recognizable ensemble that Sheridan has ever put together — the series is headlined by Zoe Saldaña, along with Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman. It also features Michael Kelly and returning players from Sheridan's troupe such as Dawn Olivieri, LaMonica Garrett, and Jennifer Ehle. Both seasons of the spy-thriller have received mixed-to-positive reviews, earning it an overall 72% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The first season holds a 54% score, while the second has a far superior 90%.

As Usual, Taylor Sheridan Has Multiple Titles Charting on Paramount+ At the Same Time

We're talking, of course, about Lioness. In his review of the second season, Collider's Michael John Petty compared it to Prime Video's The Terminal List and wrote that it "doesn't have the same consistent rise in temperature that keeps one fully engaged." However, along with several Sheridan titles, Lioness witnessed a spike in interest over the weekend. According to FlixPatrol, it was among the most-watched shows on the domestic Paramount+ chart this week, behind The Madison and the CBS series Marshals, which Sheridan executive-produced. Lioness is set to return for a third season, with Saldaña having become an Oscar-winner in the interim. Kidman, on the other hand, can currently be seen in the crime-thriller series Scarpetta, which has been ruling over the Prime Video charts for the past few days. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
