EXCLUSIVE: Taylor Richardson (The Gilded Age) and Alex MacNicoll (The Society) are set to star in the short film Change the Prophecy from writer-director and Love List co-founder Lindsay Grossman.

The short is a television proof-of-concept, based on Grossman’s original short story of the same name. It will be produced by fellow Love List co-founder Madison Jones and Geneva Willis.

Change the Prophecy follows Richardson as Sarah Rowe, a teenage girl living in a society where the government matches you with a soulmate at the age of eighteen. When Sarah finds out she doesn’t have a soulmate and is thus relegated to a life as a social pariah, she hacks into the matching list and steals someone else’s, in so doing, separating the most popular boy in school, Tony Emerson (MacNicoll), from the girl he loves.

“We’re so thrilled to be a part of Change the Prophecy,” Jones and Willis said in a statement to Deadline. “Both of us have been fans of Lindsay’s writing for a while now, and when we read the early drafts of this short, we knew it was a project we needed to be involved in. We can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”

Added Grossman: “Change the Prophecy showcases the world of love and dating through the lens of a speculative world where the idea of choosing one’s destiny is both antiquated and forbidden. It’s a swoony, angsty love letter to dystopian YA literature and to the teen dramas of the late 90s/early aughts.”

Production is set for June of this year. Jamie Ember is serving as the project’s casting director.

Grossman is represented by Krista Sipp at Heroes & Villains. Richardson is represented by Paradigm while McNicoll is represented by Gersh, Joanne Horowitz Management and Stone Genow. Willis is represented by Christine Coggins at Heroes & Villains.
