Something wicked is going bump in the dark today in the newest trailer to come for Netflix’s Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Using the title as a clue, the series centers around — well — something really terrible that happens to a couple as they approach their nuptials. Created and showrun by Haley Z. Boston, the project is the latest to be backed by executive producers Ross and Matt Duffer following their uber-successful five-season run with Stranger Things. While there may not be any links to the Upside Down in the brothers’ upcoming horror series, it sounds like there will still be plenty of darkness to go around for the leading characters played by Emmy nominee Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & the Six) and The White Lotus alum Adam DiMarco.

Joining the leading pair in the streamer’s frightfully fun latest content addition is a lineup that includes the talents of Jeff Wilbusch (The Calling), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Karla Crome (Carnival Row), Gus Birney (Shining Vale), Sawyer Fraser (Big Sky River), and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs). In addition to serving as the showrunner, Boston also executive produces alongside the Duffers and Hilary Leavitt under their Upside Down Pictures banner, Weronika Tofilska, and Andrea Sperling.

Madly in love and ready to take the next step towards forever, the couple at the center of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen are all smiles and romance at the beginning of the trailer. With wide eyes and big dreams, they spend time in a diner planning the most picturesque, small wedding they can imagine at the groom’s (DiMarco) family’s cabin. But, when they arrive at their destination, the bride (Morrone) can’t shake the feeling that something’s horribly wrong. That gut feeling is only further exacerbated when members of the family begin to question her decision, forcing her to confront the possibility that she’s making a life-altering mistake.

Haley Z. Boston’s Background in Horror

Prior to creating Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Boston poured her talent into numerous other projects with similar themes, including Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion’s Brand New Cherry Flavor. In a statement paired with the trailer’s release, Boston said:

“I love horror. It’s natural to me. It’s the way that I process my own emotions and feelings and my own understanding of the world. Horror allows you to explore taboo feelings and take all of these fears and give them some bite… The week leading up to a wedding is such a ripe comparison to walking the plank. You’re marching toward your death if it’s the wrong choice.”
