The recent launch of the LEGO Pokémon line gave fans several options for buildable Pokémon, but with only set retailing for less than $199.99, the investment isn't for the faint of heart. Luckily, it looks like this is only the start, and the latest leaks suggest three more Pokémon are on the way with slightly more reasonable price tags.
Reddit user AdvancedLancerX shared names, set numbers, piece counts, and prices for three alleged upcoming Pokémon sets, courtesy of Brickmerge on Instagram. According to the leak, Munchlax, Arcanine, and Rayquaza will all release on August 1, for €69.99, €99.99, and €129.99 respectively. Prices in USD have not been provided, but based on the regional pricing for the currently available Pokémon sets, they'll likely stick to the same numbers despite the change in currency.
LEGO Munchlax, Arcanine, & Rayquaza Are Rumored
August Is Shaping Up Nicely
The full list of rumored information is as follows:
|
72150 |
Munchlax |
757 |
€69.99 |
|
72160 |
Arcanine |
1190 |
€99.99 |
|
72168 |
Rayquaza |
1083 |
€129.99 |
Accordingly, Munchlax will likely be slightly larger than the currently available Eevee model, while Arcanine and Rayquaza will both sit comfortably between the Eevee and Pikachu sets in scale. Interestingly, Arcanine has more pieces than Rayquaza despite being significantly cheaper, but Rayquaza may feature larger or more specialized pieces on average to make up for the price difference.
While there's no official confirmation of these sets, Brickmerge is considered a reliable source for LEGO leaks. That being said, prices could easily change before launch, and LEGO has even canceled some upcoming sets at the last minute in the past.
Many More Pokémon Sets Are On The Way
This Is Only The Start
These sets may just be the tip of the iceberg for the future of LEGO Pokémon, as the line looks like it may be a major focus for the foreseeable future. Beyond these three rumored sets, LEGO indexing site Brickset currently attributes 16 other set numbers to future Pokémon sets.
Previous leaks have suggested that a wave of summer releases (before the August sets) will be "Smart Play" sets, meaning they're compatible with the interactive Smart Brick. Meanwhile, another leak for August 1 suggests that a Poké Ball set will be the only one to come with minifigures, as reported by brick.tap on Instagram and shared by Batalfie on Reddit.
Hopefully, the smorgasbord of sets on the way will give both kids and adults plenty of solid options to choose from. With over a thousand unique Pokémon in the Pokédex to date, the Pokémon license could be a steady source of new LEGO sets for years to come.
