First released back in 2010 as the second installment in the Red Dead franchise, Red Dead Redemption brought the Rockstar series into the limelight, making it the perfect sequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 (yes, it's confusing). Set during the decline of the American frontier in 1911, the story follows the beloved John Marston, an outlaw who must go back to his old tricks after his wife and son are taken hostage by the government in exchange for his services.
Widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time, Red Dead Redemption won multiple accolades and Game of the Year awards, so it is no wonder that, 16 years on, fans are feeling the hype following a recent announcement.
Red Dead Redemption Is Back Again
Yes, you read that correctly. Red Dead Redemption is back yet again as a PlayStation 5 copy will be making its way to the next-gen console as of 7 May. This news comes after Spanish store Wakkap somehow managed to leak the information ahead of the official Rockstar Games announcement, with the store already opening up pre-orders for physical copies (via Viciados).
According to the shop listing, Red Dead Redemption for PlayStation 5 will cost €32.90 and will launch on 7 May 2026. Additionally, the edition will include both the base game and its zombie expansion, Undead Nightmare. This marks the first time that fans will be able to purchase the Rockstar hit as a physical edition for the PlayStation 5, with it previously only being available on the PlayStation 4. Now, thanks to the physical disc, you will be able to hop straight into the game without having to manually upgrade to the game's PS5 version.
Red Dead Redemption 2's PS5 Port Remains Elusive
Rockstar Games/Nexus Mods: Project New Austin 1907At the time of writing, an official announcement of the PS5 disc for Red Dead Redemption has not yet been shared by Rockstar Games. However, with rumors of it existing on top of this latest shop listing by Wakkap, there is no denying that an announcement is inevitable. It is worth remembering that this is merely a remaster, not a remake, and so players can still expect the same magic and atmosphere of the original 2010 title. That being said, fans over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumors are already feeling the hype.
"I literally cannot believe Rockstar will do ANYTHING but RDR2 next-gen," one user joked. Another agreed, adding, "Rockstar will do anything but release a modern port of GTA 4 to free it from the PS3 gulag.." It is true that Rockstar is focusing on perhaps all the wrong projects, but with Grand Theft Auto VI being its biggest priority, we will have to have a little patience when it comes to the remasters and ports we have been demanding. For now, however, let us get ready for the launch of a brand-new Red Dead Redemption.
