With collective thousands of hours in games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Elden Ring, and The Legend of Zelda, he's now writes game features, guides, and reviews for Screen Rant, but has covered a wide range of topics, including ancient history, affordable travel, and overall health.
The file size for Pokémon Pokopia has appeared online prior to its release next month. The upcoming life sim set in the Pokémon universe is scheduled for release on March 5, with preorders available now. Styling itself a sort of Animal Crossing-Pokémon crossover, Pokopia casts players as a humanoid Ditto tasked with creating their own town through crafting and building.
Now, fans have discovered the file size of Pokopia ahead of launch, with X (formerly Twitter) gaming news source @Genki_JPN discovering a Pokopia download card in stores. According to the image below, Pokopia's file size will be around 10 GB, which is surprisingly small for a game so potentially expansive and customizable — but that may be a good thing.
Pokémon Pokopia's File Size Is A Pleasant Surprise
Pokopia won't take up too much room
According to this in-store download card, which contains a digital download key for Pokopia, the download size for the upcoming release is just 10 GB. That's shockingly low for a majorrelease, although not unheard of in the world of Nintendo life sims. Animal Crossing New Horizons' Switch 2 version, for example, comes in at just 10.2 GB.
Still, if you're struggling to cram all the games you want on your Switch 2's tiny 256-gig internal storage, this is welcome news. While first-party Nintendo games tend to be economical on space, big third-party releases like Final Fantasy 7 Remake can easily eat up 100 GB or more.
So, if your Switch 2's SSD is already bursting at the seams, you'll be happy to know that you (probably) won't have to delete anything from it before you get started on Pokopia. Your years-old Animal Crossing island is still safe.
Pokémon Pokopia Lands March 5
What to expect from Nintendo's new life sim
Pokopia comes to Switch 2 on March 5, just over a week away at the time of writing. It's expected to be an Animal Crossing-style life sim with Pokémon trappings, including a full 'Dex of 300 Pokémon. As a Ditto disguised as a human, you'll get to know your neighbors, help them out with various favors, and build up your custom town.
Also very promising are Pokopia's multiplayer features, which include an always-accessible online area for you to share and develop with your friends, even when you're not all online. Otherwise, you can invite your friends to visit your island or travel to theirs.
More details are expected to be revealed in a stream this afternoon; the Nintendo Treehouse goes live at 5 PM ET/2 PM PT on February 24. Expect about half of the 80-minute presentation to be devoted to Pokémon Pokopia gameplay.
