M. Night Shyamalan‘s “Remain,” a romantic drama that also inspired Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel of the same name, will hit theaters on February 5, 2027.
The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and “Bridgerton” breakout Phoebe Dynevor. The cast also includes Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare and Maria Dizzia. Shyamalan and Sparks independently wrote a screenplay and a novel, respectively, based on the same original love story.
Warner Bros. is releasing the film and selected the date because it is seeing strong pre-sales for “Wuthering Heights,” a romance that is arriving in theaters this year for Valentine’s Day. The studio believes that February, once seen as a slow month for moviegoing, has become a much more lucrative corridor to release films. Sources also say that “Remain” has received the highest test scores of Shyamalan’s career. That’s saying something considering that his filmography includes hits such as “The Sixth Sense” and “Unbreakable.”
“Remain” faces some stiff competition, however. Universal is releasing an untitled Judd Apatow comedy that stars Glen Powell and Disney is debuting “Ice Age: Boiling Point” on the same date. However, those films are geared at slightly different demographics with the Apatow film targeting male moviegoers and “Ice Age” more appealing to family crowds. The following weekend will bring “Nightingale,” a historical drama that stars Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning, as well as an untitled K-Pop project. “Remain” was originally slated to debut in October 2026.
Shyamalan is producing the film along with Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures, alongside Marc Bienstock and Sparks’ producing partner Theresa Park. Sparks is an executive producer.
