EXCLUSIVE: Spain’s AF Films has joined Oppenheimer producer Charles Roven on action pic Hammer Down, but Idris Elba is no longer attached the project.

Roven and his Atlas Entertainment and AF will co-produce the film, which Guardians of the Galaxy exec producer Simon Hatt is directing. AF’s Frank Ariza and producing partner Manu Vega will produce alongside Madison Weireter and Collin Kraus from Atlas.

Deadline has learned Luther and Hijack star Elba has exited the pic. When we revealed news of the project in October 2024, Elba was signed up to star and co-produce alongside Roven through his 22 Summers imprint.

Hammer Down follows a seasoned long haul trucker and his tenacious daughter as they’re forced to confront their fractured relationship while transporting a mysterious cargo across the country. As dangerous foes close in, the pair must come together in order to navigate the road ahead.

“We’re excited to bring Hammer Down to life with AF Films,” said Roven. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to high-energy, character-driven storytelling.”

Hammer Down aligns closely with AF Films’ creative sensibilities and international production strategy,” added Ariza. “Partnering with Atlas Entertainment allows us to fully engage as co-producers while leveraging an international financing and production framework that supports the scale and ambition of the project.”

Under the collaboration, AF will lead on production in Spain and other European territories.
