Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

Apple TV has become a go-to platform for gripping sci-fi, and Silo is arguably among the streamer's best. The dystopian thriller, starring Rebecca Ferguson, imagines a future where humanity’s last refuge is a towering underground bunker spanning 44 levels. Since its 2023 debut, the series has become one of Apple TV’s most talked-about hits, maintaining strong viewership even during its offseason. Anticipation is already building for Season 3, expected to arrive later this year. In the meantime, a similarly themed series, arguably just as compelling, if not more so, has resurfaced online and is a perfect binge for Silo fans.

We’re referring, of course, to Station Eleven, the HBO miniseries that premiered to widespread acclaim in 2021, but faded from the conversation far too quickly. The series earned near-universal praise from critics, boasting a remarkable 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which even surpasses Silo’s already impressive 90%. Adapted from Emily St. John Mandel’s acclaimed novel of the same name, Station Eleven was developed for television by Patrick Somerville, best known for writing and producing the haunting HBO drama The Leftovers and, more recently, penning the script for the blockbuster Predator: Badlands.

Like Silo, Station Eleven unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world, though its approach is markedly different. Instead of an underground bunker, the setting is more relatable, following a troupe of traveling performers navigating a wasteland in the aftermath of a devastating flu outbreak. But make no mistake, that different perspective doesn’t come at the expense of intrigue. The story gradually layers in mystery as the group crosses paths with a cult whose enigmatic leader shares an unexpected connection to one of their own. At their core, both series are driven by the same idea of characters clinging to hope and meaning in worlds that offer very little of either. As noted in its critical consensus, Station Eleven "rewards patient viewers with an insightful and thematically rich assertion that — even in the post-apocalypse — the show must go on."

Where Can You Watch 'Station Eleven'?

All 10 episodes of Station Eleven are available to stream on HBO Max, but the series has recently gained fresh momentum elsewhere. The miniseries has surged on the iTunes digital platform, ranking among the most purchased titles of the past week. It’s also available to rent or buy on other platforms, including Amazon Video and Sky Store. Other shows currently trending on the iTunes chart that may equally appeal to Silo fans include the Stephen King sci-fi series 11.22.63, and Westworld, the ambitious HBO sci-fi epic that ended prematurely but remains a cult favorite.

Stay tuned at Collider for more streaming updates.
