Things are seemingly finally starting to move around the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI, with some stores seemingly jumping the gun on pre-orders ahead of any official announcement. At the same time, the Take-Two earnings call is only days away, and if we get through that, then we should be safely on the way to the scheduled November launch.
Over on Twitter/X, the user videotech shared a clip from a recent interview on YouTube, in which David Senra interviewed Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. Though it was full of interesting tidbits, there was a genuinely major revelation, that the post explains:
"As Strauss said in today’s interview, GTA VI is already around 18 months overdue, pointing toward a Spring 2025 release. Zelnick may have accidentally slipped up at three delays."
Since then, journalist Tom Henderson has responded, confirming that absolutely was the case, and oh boy, does it hurt to imagine a world where we have already been playing it for well over a year. The comments were predictably filled with fans echoing similar thoughts, with one saying, "So Strauss basically just confirmed GTA VI was delayed 3 times… and Tom Henderson backing it up? That’s wild."
It has to be said that, this time around, things do feel very different. We are closer to a scheduled release date for the game than we have ever been before, and the activities of those adjacent to the game, like retailers and stores, lend further credence to the idea that, this time around, Rockstar is sticking to their guns.
Plus, the fact remains that if they had released the game sooner, and it wasn't in the state that players wanted it to be, then that would have been a far worse outcome than holding onto it for all this time, only to give us a better release.
In any case, all we can really do now is sit tight and hope for the best, while the unending powers of the market dictate exactly what our lives are going to be like for the remainder of this year. One thing's for sure though, if we do get GTA VI on schedule, then we're in for a genuinely brilliant Winter.
