Kiana Madeira is just as hopeful to come back for Fear Street 5 and answer the franchise's biggest mystery.

The Netflix horror movie series is based on R.L. Stine's novels of the same name, with the original trilogy centering on Madeira's Deena and her brother and friends as they inadvertently become the targets in the latest cycle of Shadyside's infamous curse of Sarah Fier. With the trilogy garnering widespread acclaim and strong viewership, the streamer moved ahead with the standalone spinoff, Fear Street: Prom Queen, while Stine has previously indicated there were other movies in development for the franchise.

Now, in an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for her turn in Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair, Madeira reflected on the Netflix horror franchise. Asked both for her thoughts on a potential Fear Street 5 return and who she thinks took the widow's Satanic ritual book in Part Three's cliffhanger, the star began by humorously admitting that "I feel like my answer to the second part of that question changes every time."

However, she did share that she has two favorite theories as to who could have taken the book, first expressing that "I really liked the idea of it being someone in the Goode lineage," hoping to return to their centuries of success in the area after Deena broke the Sarah Fier curse, as well as "really liking the idea of it being Cindy Berman," given there is "so much unsolved trauma for her in the entire story" after the loss of her sister in Part Two and nearly having died.

Madeira turned to asking our theory about who took the book in Part Three's mid-credits scene, to which Rachel Doman's "Queen of Air and Darkness" was cited due to her shared knowledge of Sarah Fier with Benjamin Flores Jr.'s Josh. She agreed that it was a "great" idea and a "great opportunity to introduce a brand-new character" to the fold. As for whether there have been talks for her to return, the star says there has been nothing official, but that she and her co-stars discuss it frequently:

Kiana Madeira: Olivia [Scott Welch] and I talk about it all the time. I think we would love to. There are so many ideas that we have, and ways to bring it back. So we would love to do that for the fans, also selfishly for ourselves, because playing Deena and Sam again would be unreal. So, God willing, I think there's a lot of space for it, and so we'll see what we can make happen.

With the original trilogy being shot back-to-back, the first three Fear Street movies gave a fair amount of closure to Madeira's Deena and Welch's Sam. However, with Part Three's ending seeing the aforementioned book being taken by an unspecified figure, many believed that a fourth film would expound upon this, only for 2025's Prom Queen to instead adapt Stine's novel of the same name and being a pseudo-prequel to the original trilogy, being set in 1988 while the mainline story of the first three was set in 1994.

In the five years since the first set of films released, there have been a variety of theories as to who grabbed the book. Some of the more notable include Josh, Deena or Sam, with the survivors wanting to avoid another string of murders carrying over into future decades of Shadyside, as well as Madeira's theories about Cindy or a Goode family member, and ScreenRant's own Queen of Air and Darkness character theory.

But while the film may have seemingly been completely separate from its predecessor, there is a chance that Fear Street: Prom Queen may have also set up another party for taking the book, as its ending showed the blood pooling from Katherine Waterston's antagonist Nancy forming the Witch's Mark that the Goode's fed in their centuries-long reign of terror. With Chris Klein's Dan proving the sole survivor of the killer group in the 2025 film, he could be revealed to have come back and taken the book in order to resurrect his family.

Fear Street Timeline: Every Event & Killer Explained

Fear Street Part 1 revealed a list of 300 years worth of Shadyside killers, so here's a breakdown of the timeline of the witch-possessed killings.

While Prom Queen seemed to indicate that the streamer was aiming to take the franchise in an anthological format going forward, there is still a chance that they could return to the original characters and storyline. The most recent Fear Street movie, led by a new creative team, was largely met with derision from critics and audiences alike, currently holding 27% and 24% approval ratings from each on Rotten Tomatoes.

It did overcome these critiques to be a modest viewership success within the first month of its premiere, but with it failing to resonate in the way the original trilogy did with audiences, Fear Street 5 seems like it could go back to Deena and co.'s story. With numerous possibilities as to who took the widow's Satanic book, and a variety of ways for a new film to be another time-jumping story with dozens of previous killers falling under the Goode/Fier curse, Madeira and Welch may just get their wish to reprise their characters in the future.

The story centers on the town of Shadyside, a place cursed for centuries until a group of teenagers are forced to find a way to break it. Otherwise, they'll fall victim to deathless serial killers who continue to return until they kill their target. The series was brought back as a three-film event on Netflix in 2021 and gained widespread popularity.
