When it comes to medical dramas, the long-running Grey's Anatomy has always been the most recommended, even over two decades after its premiere on ABC. The show has been well-received by critics throughout much of its run and performs exceptionally well on streaming as well, ranking among the most popular on-demand programs. Its tremendous success quickly led to its significant influence on popular culture, which in turn has shaped the landscape of medical dramas, propelling similarly intriguing medical shows to the limelight, including FOX's Doc.

Having premiered on January 7, 2025, on FOX, the two-season show steadily built a fan base both on and off streaming platforms. As of January 27, 2026, Doc is averaging 7.3 million multi-platform viewers so far this season, three times the average for its first on-air showing — 2.35 million. Additionally, the season's first 11 episodes all rank among the network's top 20 multi-platform telecasts this season (excluding live sports), based on a week of viewing. The medical drama's success has now led to its renewal for a third time, per reports, not long after FOX renewed the network's other medical show, Doc's Tuesday night lead-in, Best Medicine. Announcing the news, Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope said in a statement:

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Rob Wade, Michael Thorn, and their amazing teams at Fox. This milestone highlights Doc’s compelling storytelling and standout performances that have resonated with audiences globally.”

FOX's Hit Medical Drama Has Been Renewed

Based on an Italian series, Doc is produced by Fox Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg are the showrunners and serve as executive producers alongside Erwin Stoff, Russell Fine, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Carol Barbee, and David Foster. Along with Molly Parker, the series stars Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, and Felicity Huffman.

With the renewal, Doc, which is currently airing Season 2, will return with 22 episodes for Season 3, similar to its predecessor. "Doc has become a true breakout for Fox, delivering our largest scripted multi-platform audience of the season and building remarkable momentum across Fox, Hulu, Netflix, and internationally — earning it another 22-episode order," said FOX Television Network president Michael Thorn. "That success is a testament to the exceptional creative leadership of [Steinberg] and [Kligman], our terrific partners at Sony, and the talented Molly Parker, whose deeply nuanced performance gives the series its soul."

Doc airs on Tuesdays on FOX. Stay tuned to Collider for more news.
