Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

If you're looking to dive into one of the best action RPGs currently out there, Diablo 4 is currently free to download and play on Xbox for a limited time. And the best part is you don't need Xbox Game Pass to check this particular deal out.

Xbox recently announced the latest batch of games you can check out for free via its weekly Free Play Days promotion. While you typically need an Xbox Game Pass subscription to see what's on offer, an open trial of Diablo 4 is completely free for everyone, Game Pass or not, to download and play. Just be aware this is a limited-time offer, and you only have until March 18, 10am PT to play the game for free.

Diablo 4's massive new Lord of Hatred expansion is scheduled to launch April 28, but ahead of that you can jump into Blizzard RPG to get a feel for the game. Or, if you played at launch and then left it, you can hop in and see what you missed.

Here's the official rundown on Diablo 4 from Xbox:

ARPG fans, the gates to Sanctuary stand open for you. For a limited time, everyone can step into the Hellish world of Diablo IV. Play through the iconic campaign with any class, including the Paladin from the new Lord of Hatred expansion, up to level 25. When the trial concludes, your progress stays with you. Resume your journey on Game Pass or by purchasing Diablo IV and unlock continued access to the Paladin by pre-ordering Lord of Hatred today!

To get your hands on Diablo 4, you'll need to find the game on Xbox.com. Clicking through sends you to the Microsoft Store, where you should see the option to download the trial. To download on console, search for the game. It's simplicity itself. Again, however, I must stress: this is not free to keep. Your progress will carry over to the full game, though, so that's something.

What Else Is Available Via Xbox Free Play Days This Week?

Something for everyone

If Diablo 4 isn't exactly your idea of a good time, Xbox Free Play Days has a few other freebies you can check out, although the rest of the offerings do require a Game Pass subscription.

These games are:

  • Killing Floor 3
  • Bassmaster Fishing
  • Worms W.M.D
  • Tropico 6

All four of these games are available this weekend for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members to play until Sunday, March 15. Personally, I think I'll be sticking with Diablo 4.
