Britney Spears' former lawyer Mathew Rosengart has spoken out after the pop star was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The 44-year-old singer was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol on March 4 in Ventura County following multiple 911 calls - but was released the next morning. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

Rosengart previously represented the Baby One More Time hitmaker amid her conservatorship battle in 2021 and she later gushed that he was a 'wonderful' attorney.

'It was my great honor to work with and protect Britney as her litigator and I will always be proud of her and the work we did together,' he began in a statement to the Daily Mail.

'Ranging from helping, at her request and direction, to restore her freedom, civil rights, and civil liberties after a 13 year conservatorship that stripped her of those rights, to many other matters.'

Rosengart then shared that Spears 'is and will always be an icon.'

'It was my great honor to work with and protect Britney as her litigator and I will always be proud of her and the work we did together,' he began in a statement to the Daily Mail

He added, 'While I do not have the facts concerning March 4, with freedom comes responsibility, and I was pleased to see that Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law.'

The lawyer also voiced his support to the songstress and said, 'I'll always care greatly about her and support her in any way I can.'

Rosengart worked closely with Spears amid the battle to end her 13-year conservatorship - which officially concluded in November 2021.

He later helped the music artist land a deal to release her 2023 memoir The Woman In Me.

The attorney additionally had a part in setting up a prenup before her marriage to ex-husband Sam Asghari.

A few years earlier in 2024, Spears paid a special tribute to Rosengart on social media following her 'mental health crisis' at the Chateau Marmont.

'This man is wonderful! He's like a father to me and he got me through last night! I adore you and admire you mister Mathew!' she shared at the time.

The federal prosecutor later reacted to her message and exclusively told the Daily Mail, 'I was surprised and very flattered by the post, and the feelings are mutual.'

Later that same year, he stopped representing the Toxic singer after closing the door on remaining legal loose ends.

Rosengart had also issued a statement at the time as he called working with Spears for three years an 'honor.'

'It has been an honor to serve as Britney's litigator, to work with her to achieve her goals in obtaining the court-ordered suspension of her former conservator, followed by restoring her fundamental rights and civil liberties.

'While continuing to protect her and more recently to extricate her from all outstanding litigation and the byzantine probate court proceedings. As I've always said, the credit goes to Britney,' he said.

Earlier last week on March 4, Spears was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Ventura County by California Highway Patrol. She was released the following morning.

Representatives for Spears later released a statement in response to the arrest to the Daily Mail which read: 'This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.

'Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life.'

They added, 'Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

'Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.'

Dispatchers and officers could be heard during a 911 call as they described the incident as it took place in real time.

A dispatcher stated, 'A black sedan, erratic braking, swerving and driving with no tail light.'

One officer then requested, 'Can we send all units down towards this area please?' The vehicle was later identified as a '2026 black BMW convertible.'

The call initially began around 8:13pm and dispatch confirmed an hour later at around 9:13pm that the 'driver is out of the vehicle.'

Police reportedly found Adderall inside her vehicle and the pills are currently being tested to determine if it is pure Adderall or laced with other substances.

If the substance tests positive for a narcotic, Spears could possibly be looking at jail time.

But if it turns out that narcotics were not involved, then the pop star will not face jail time, Los Angeles-based attorney Tre Lovell told the Daily Mail.

It is also not yet known or confirmed that the singer had been under the influence at the time of the incident.
