Zayn has announced his fifth studio album “Konnakol,” releasing on April 17 via Mercury Records.

The singer, who recently finished his Las Vegas residency, will release the project’s first single “Die for Me” this Friday. According to a release, “Konnakol” “expands on the sound fans first heard on his record breaking debut studio album ‘Mind of Mine.'” The album’s cover features a snow leopard, a symbol in South Asia that’s meant to convey how his heritage inspired the project. At the end of each Vegas show, he featured snow leopard imagery as an Easter egg.

“It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album,” said Zayn in a statement. “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music, this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”

Zayn recently completed his seven-night residency at Vegas’ Dolby Live at Park MGM in late January. During the show, he teased unreleased music and played fan favorites across the shows, which wrapped on January 31.

In a review of opening night, Variety praised Zayn’s performance, stating that “he delivered pristine vocals, his signature falsetto, and a noticeably stronger stage presence than on his last tour.”
