Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted.
While Xbox Game Pass is constantly adding new free games for subscribers, it's rare for one to truly stand out from the pack as an instant classic. In recent years, some of the biggest day-one highlights have been games like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but other big releases like Starfield have proven disappointing for many fans.
Luckily, one of the latest additions to the service is proving to be a smash hit. This time, love is being fueled both by a gameplay formula honed across every release of a successful franchise and a popular choice of setting.
Forza Horizon 6 joined Xbox Game Pass as a day-one release, and Ultimate and PC subscribers seem to be having the time of their life. On Reddit, user Automatic_Ad1665 granted the game a 10/10 score, calling it a "masterpiece" and praising the Japanese setting and detailed incorporation of seasonal changes.
Taking a glance at the comments, it's evident that Automatic_Ad1665 isn't alone in their assessment. For a lot of players, the standout aspect of Forza Horizon 6 is simply the vibes. Heartlander83 calls it "the perfect way to end the day and wind down," and Gspotavenger shouts out its "beautiful" depiction of autumn.
Impressively, Forza Horizon 6 seems to be converting plenty of players who aren't usually racing fans. NickyNichols notes that its "cozy" nature has them hooked despite not being "a car or a racing guy." Lazybum1991 is even newer to the genre, claiming that they've "never played a car game before" but Forza Horizon 6 has them "OBSESSED."
The Forza Horzion spin-off series has always had a lot more casual appeal than Forza Motorsport, trading the more serious simulation aspects for a focus on beautiful scenery and casual open-world driving alongside the races. It's an exceptionally consistent franchise, with every entry receiving high review scores, but Forza Horizon 6 is making some especially big waves. While Screen Rant's review has some modest critiques of the game, it also praises its celebration of Japanese cars and exceptional driving experience.
Forza Horizon 6 also continues a streak for games developed in the West but set in Japan, with 2025 delivering both Assassin's Creed Shadows and Ghost of Yōtei. Now that people have had the chance to explore some of the past, a modern open-world racing extravaganza was apparently the next step that plenty of Xbox Game Pass subscribers were waiting for.
