Morgan Riddle did not want to just earn love in her romance with Taylor Fritz

Two months after the influencer and the tennis star’s split was confirmed, Riddle reflected on why she opted not to allow Fritz to support her financially during their six years together.

“Early on in the relationship, there was a point where he was like, ‘Well you should just quit your corporate job,’” Riddle shared during a June 24 appearance on the Hot Smart Rich podcast. “And I was like, ‘I’m going to do that, but I need to figure out something else to do.’”

Fritz, however, told her, “‘I can just handle things.’”

But that wasn’t the type of partnership she was looking for.

“I was like, ‘I don’t think that’s the right idea.’ Because I’d seen other partners on tour in that situation and you lose a sense of freedom,” Riddle shared. “It was always super important to me to be independent.”

E! News reached out to Fritz’ rep for comment but has not heard back.

And while Riddle became a fixture in Fritz’ box during his tennis matches, there was a lot more happening behind the scenes: “I did so much without him when I was traveling on tour.”

“I would go to museums, I would go shopping, I’d go vintage shopping,” the 28-year-old recalled. “I would go on girls’ trips all the time. I needed my own money to go on a girls’ trip to Ibiza. I wasn’t gonna ask him to do that.”

The fashion influencer posited that her life wouldn’t have felt as fulfilling if Fritz was the only financial contributor in their relationship.

“If I hadn’t been making my own money, would I have all these trips with friends?" she considered. “Would I have been able to give myself these experiences and never feel guilty about it for a second because it was my money?”

Though Riddle admitted that she briefly did rely on Fritz financially, she didn’t like the tension it caused in their romance.

“I knew myself and I knew in those couple weeks that I wasn’t making money on tour—I could see that I would start to resent him,” she shared. “Because I was doing so much for him, and working so much. Like, doing the laundry and making sure he’s up on time. The things you do in a partnership when you have a partner who’s very, very busy and dealing with a lot.”

Riddle reasoned, “For me, I just knew that I needed something to focus on that was outside of him.”

Despite their split, Riddle was a huge supporter of Fritz during their relationship. Keep reading for more stars supporting their athlete partners…
