Meghan Markle's Netflix Show Scores First-Ever Daytime Emmy Nomination
It seems Heated Rivalry isn’t leaving the cottage to head to the 2026 Emmy Awards.
Although the hockey romance arguably became the year’s most talked-about TV show and catapulted its stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams to international fame, it didn’t receive a single nomination at this year’s event, hosted by Mariska Hargitay in Los Angeles Sept. 14.
That’s because, despite it being watched on HBO Max by more than 10 million American viewers, the show is actually a Canadian production created for the nation’s Crave network. (HBO Max only has the U.S. distribution rights.)
Given that the U.S.-based Television Academy’s rules and regulations deem a show ineligible “unless it is the result of a co-production (both financially and creatively) between U.S. and foreign partners, which precedes the start of production, and with a purpose to be shown on U.S. television,” Heated Rivalry wasn’t allowed to enter the rink.
Still, Storrie received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his turn as host on Saturday Night Live. (Check out all the full list of nominations here.)
Other popular newcomers like the Legally Blonde prequel Elle, Every Year After, The Vampire Lestat and Cape Fear weren’t eligible for the 2026 Emmy Awards since they premiered after this year’s eligibility window, which closed May 31.

Likewise, House of the Dragon’s third season and The Bear’s fifth and final season fell outside of the eligibility window, but will be eligible for the 2027 Emmys. (The Bear’s 2026 Emmy nominations are for its fourth season, which premiered all the way back in the summer of 2025.)
And while Netflix movies like Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s rom-com Office Romance and Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson’s Voicemails for Isabelle were wildly popular this summer, they aren’t competing this year against other made-for-TV movies, including Sally Fields’ Remarkably Bright Creatures and the Emily Henry adaptation People We Meet on Vacation.
That’s because they premiered after May 31, so they’ll be up for consideration in the newly renamed Outstanding Movie category—formerly Outstanding Television Movie—next year.

Some popular names were also not featured on the nominations list, including Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, who, although she had a leading role in season three, had a reduced part in season four, which premiered in January. So, in her case, Netflix didn’t enter her as a contender this year, according to Gold Derby, which would mean she didn’t appear on the ballot during the initial nominations round.
Meanwhile, some fans may have noticed their favorite shows like Taylor Sheridan’s Landman or Netflix’s third and final installment of Squid Game didn’t receive any Emmy nominations this year, either. However, those series—like many other snubs—were eligible, they just unfortunately didn’t land on the list of nominees.

SURPRISE: Connor Storrie, Saturday Night Live
While Heated Rivalry was sidelined from the award show since it was financed outside of the United States—it's a production from Canada's Bell Media—Connor Storrie is still in the running for an Emmy.
After all, the actor—who experienced a meteoric rise to fame alongside Heated Rivalry costar Hudson Williams following the 2025 release of their gay hockey romance—was nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his February 2026 Saturday Night Live appearance.

SNUB: The Amazing Race
Although the competition show has been nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Program since the category's inception in 2003—including 108 nods and 15 wins—it didn't make it across the finish line this time.

SURPRISE: Euphoria
Despite the lackluster response to the HBO show's third season—which earned a drastically lower critical score than its first and second installments—it received seven nominations.
Zendaya proved that she didn't need any help shaking up the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, which she previously won in 2022 and 2020. Colman Domingo also earned a nod in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
The show—which also starred Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and Maude Apatow—was also nominated for Picture Editing, Production Design, Cinematography, Contemporary Hairstyling and Contemporary Makeup.

SNUB: Stranger Things
The Netflix series may have earned nominations for Special Visual Effects, Production Design, Sound Mixing and more, but it didn't get a spotlight in any acting or directing categories for its fifth and final season. It's a disappointing end to the beloved show, which has won 12 Emmys since its 2016 debut.

SNUB: Jeremy Allen White, The Bear
Sorry, Chef. While The Bear was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and Ayo Edibiri earned a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Jeremy Allen White didn't get an Outstanding Lead Actor nod. (The Shameless alum won the award in 2023 and 2024 for his role as Carmy Berzatto.)

SNUB: Ebon Moss-Bachrach, The Bear
Cousin didn't make the cut, either. Although Ebon Moss-Bachrach—who plays Richie Jerimovich—won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2023 and 2024 and was nominated in 2025, he wasn't included in this year's list.

SURPRISE: Chase Infiniti, The Testaments
Following Chase Infiniti's film debut in One Battle After Another, which earned her Golden Globe and Actor Awards nominations, she may be striking gold at the Emmys with The Testaments. Following in the footsteps of her onscreen mom Elisabeth Moss, Infiniti, who plays Agnes in the Hulu series, was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

SNUB: Paul Anthony Kelly, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette
Although Sarah Pidgeon was nominated for her role as Carolyn Bessette in the FX show—which is nominated in six categories, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series—Paul Anthony Kelly's portrayal as John F. Kennedy Jr. didn't make the list.

SNUB: Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, Nobody Wants This
This podcast co-host and hot rabbi didn't earn nods in their respective Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress categories, despite both Kristen Bell and Adam Brody being strong contenders at last year's Emmys. (The show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series this time around.)

SNUB: Wednesday
While the Jenna Ortega-led series was nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series categories for its first season in 2022, it didn't earn any acting or directing nods this year.
With a third season in the works, there's a chance an Emmy will be in its future. Unfortunately, Wednesday Addams doesn't bury hatches; she sharpens them.

SNUB: Fallout
The Prime Video series may have been nominated in nine categories—including Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes and Stunt Performance—but it didn't earn any other nods, despite its second season's positive critical reception and commercial success.
As the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) makes his way through the wasteland in season three, maybe he'll end up with an Emmy in his hands by then.
