Amy Madigan recently opened up about her 42-year marriage to Ed Harris.

The 75-year-old actress and actor, also 75, tied the knot in November 1983 and share daughter Lily, 32.

Madigan – who starred in 2025's horror movie Weapons – told PEOPLE that there isn't one rule in particular to credit with her and her husband's longevity.

'We just love each other and we work really hard at that and in our work,' she explained to the outlet earlier this month.

The longtime entertainer is enjoying an unexpected career renaissance after standing out as Aunt Gladys in Weapons last August.

On January 6 Madigan received New York Film Critics Circle's Best Supporting Actress award for the role.

She also won the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress for Weapons on January 4.

Revealing Harris' reaction to seeing her in the film, she said, 'He loved it. He's known me a long time and he saw all the parts of myself melded into Aunt Gladys.

'So, I have a very supportive family, my daughter also, so I'm very lucky.'

And the star added about how her family encourages her in the midst of awards season, she said, 'They're just saying, "You can do it. Hang in there." I'm like, "I don't want to get hair and makeup done again," and they're like, "It's okay."'

Madigan appeared shocked by her Critics Choice Awards win.

'I really wasn't expecting all of this,' she said while accepting the honor. 'I thought people would like the movie and I thought people would dig Gladys, but you love Gladys. It is crazy.'

She said of the character's impact: 'I get makeup tutorials and paintings. I even got one weird thing about how she's a sex icon, which, I didn't go too deep into that one.'

The actress went on to thank Warner Bros and the film's cast and crew before giving a special thank you to the fans who discovered her through Gladys.

According to PEOPLE, Madigan knew when she first saw Harris acting in the play Cowboy in 1980, she knew there was something special about him.

She told Life magazine in 1985, 'It was like something you see in a movie or hear in a song. I just thought – "Well, there he is." It was obvious to me that I'd see him again.'

Since walking down the aisle, the two have continued to work together onscreen and on the stage.

The repertoire built throughout their marriage includes nine movies and various Broadway shows.

Per People, in 1985, the Stepmom actor told the Chicago Tribune about working alongside his wife: 'The acting thing is so intimate and personal. If we're not working together... you can't really talk about your day very well.

'When you're working together, though, there's so much that is shared, so much unspoken thought and emotion that goes into the work, that it really draws you closer.'
