EXCLUSIVE: Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) and Natalie Zea (Justified) have wrapped on Gulf of America, a supernatural horror film where they star alongside David Mazouz (Gotham), David Koechner (Anchorman), and Bill Moseley (House of 1000 Corpses).
Shot locally in Los Angeles and based on an original idea by Nicholas Geisler (Bunk’d), who here made his feature directorial debut, Gulf of America follows a family who inherits a decaying desert motel, triggering an inescapable descent into greed, psychosis, and terror. Check out a first-look still featuring Mazouz above.
“Gulf of America grew out of the anxiety and isolation so many families are feeling right now,” Geisler said. “I wanted to explore how financial pressure and the search for identity can twist people who love each other into something unrecognizable. The horror films that stay with me are the ones that feel personal first and supernatural second, and this movie blends pulpy genre thrills with a story about masculinity and power. We set out to make a film that works as a relentless piece of entertainment but also leaves audiences arguing in the parking lot afterward.”
Gulf of America produced by Salt Cellar Films, which Geisler co-founded with Bennett Cordon, in association with Steven Glick’s Lucky Springwater Films, and producers Peter Heres and Marcos Sotelo. Kirsten Spalding of Seawolf Films and Robert J. Coury are serving as EPs, with Marcos Sotelo of Olive Hues handling sales.
Jessi Case (Murdaugh), Brett Keating (Nuremberg), David Shawtraw (Cobra Kai), and Darius Levanté (Lady in the Lake) round out the cast.
Kartheiser is repped by Untitled; Zea by Innovative Artists, True Management, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer; Mazouz by Paradigm, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway, Austen, Tyerman; Koechner by Gersh and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller; Moseley by Judy Fox Personal Talent Management and Skrzyniarz & Mallean; and Geisler by Michael Kolodny at Kaplan Stahler.
