Vin Diesel is back in the driver's seat.
The long-awaited follow-up to Fast X has faced numerous delays and production challenges after the tenth film underperformed at the box office and faced behind-the-scenes troubles. Fast X made $714 million against a $378 million production budget, a far cry from the eighth film's $1.2 billion haul. Now, though, it seems Diesel and the rest of Dom Toretto's crew are ready to put the pedal to the metal.
Diesel took to Instagram to reveal that the eleventh Fast & Furious movie will release on March 17, 2028. Additionally, the actor seemingly revealed that the film will be titled Fast Forever. In his announcement, Diesel touted the franchise's impact, stating, "No one has said the road would be easy... but it's ours," seemingly hinting at the rocky path to getting this film off the ground. Check out his post revealing the information below:
Diesel's post comes alongside an image of his character Dom with Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner, tying into this theme of legacy that the final film will tap into. "One that has defined us and become our legacy," the actor continued in his statement, "And a legacy... lasts Forever." Walker starred in six of the first seven Fast & Furious movies, only sitting out for the Tokyo Drift spinoff.
Furious 7 was released after his death and dedicated to his memory. Diesel has previously stated that Walker's Brian could return in the final film (his character left the franchise, but did not die in the films). How that would happen remains unclear, but there has been speculation that Walker's brother Cody could step into the role or that CGI could be used to bring Brian back.
Diesel has been a vocal proponent of completing the Fast & Furious franchise even when it looked as if the studio was less confident about wrapping it up. He has already revealed that the film will return to Los Angeles for its finale, harkening back to the roots of the first film.
More to come...
