Tubi Expands Partnership With The Black List On New Horror Screenwriting Initiative

4 days ago 9

EXCLUSIVE: Tubi, Fox’s ad-supported streamer with over 100 million monthly active users, has expanded its partnership with The Black List via a new initiative for horror screenwriters.

The initiative will provide both emerging and established writers with the opportunity to submit horror screenplays with the intention for Tubi to produce and distribute the selected screenplay. The Black List will executive produce the chosen film and will be collaborating closely with Tubi throughout the entirety of the program.

Writers around the world over the age of 18 are welcome to submit their work, but all submitted scripts must be in English. Any script that is hosted on The Black List and has received at least one evaluation is eligible for submission, and writers are also welcome to upload new projects for consideration.

Writers can submit their entries beginning March 1, with submissions to close on June 30. Send them in here.

News of the new Tubi/Black List partnership comes following their work together on To Be Commissioned, an initiative focused on discovering, developing and producing five original films from up-and-coming, underrepresented writers. It also comes on the heels of Terror on Tubi, Tubi’s annual October streaming celebration of horror, which this year drove over 100 million hours of total viewing time — a 51% increase year-over-year.

“At Tubi, we’re committed to championing and expanding the boundaries of genre storytelling,” said the streamer’s Chief Content Officer, Adam Lewinson. “Horror is one of the most-watched genres on Tubi, offering a vast creative playground with a deeply passionate fanbase that continues to grow. With our ongoing partnership with The Black List, we look forward to finding a standout script that speaks to horror fans who know and love this genre.”

Commented Black List founder Franklin Leonard, “We’ve seen again and again that when a smart, character-driven horror script meets the right partners, the results can be seismic. Extending our work with Tubi into a dedicated horror initiative feels like the natural next step in our partnership. I’m excited for Tubi’s audience to discover a film that began the way so many of the industry’s favorite projects do, as a script on the Black List website.”

Tubi will be providing fee waivers for one evaluation for participation in the program to 100 writers, along with one month of hosting. Additional details about how to apply for a Tubi fee waiver will be available on the program submission page. All fee waivers will be distributed at the discretion of Tubi and the Black List.

After submissions close, a committee of Tubi content executives will come together to review the scripts and announce the screenplay that will be moving forward.
