EXCLUSIVE: LA-based indie production company Storyoscopic Films (Vampires of the Velvet Lounge) and Southeast Asian production services company Indochina Productions (Send Help, The White Lotus) are teaming up on joint venture, BKK Films.
The company will be headed by Storyoscopic’s Marcus Englefield and George Lee, and Indochina’s Nicholas Simon, an Emmy and PGA nominee for The White Lotus.
Headquartered in Bangkok, BKK Films will have a focus on genre projects with Asian protagonists shooting in Thailand, but will also develop projects across Southeast Asia and other international territories.
The first two projects scheduled to go into production are:
- 7 Guns, starring Andrew Koji (Street Fighter) in a stylized gangster film blending crime and from shorts filmmaker Beau Fowler (Express Delivery) in his feature-length directorial debut. Producers are George Lee and Marcus Englefield for Storyoscopic, Nicholas Simon for Indochina, Beau Fowler and David Mullenger for Ki Films, and Andrew Koji.
- Dead Run, an action thriller from cinematographer Brandon Cox (Werewolves) making his feature directorial debut; set against the backdrop of Southeast Asia’s urban and rural landscapes. Producers are George Lee and Marcus Englefield for Storyoscopic, and Nicholas Simon for Indochina.
Most recently, the partners collaborated on the independent action film, Blood and Dust, starring Jonathan Rhys Myers and directed and written by Adam Sherman.
Said Englefield and Lee: “The BKK Films partnership brings together Storyoscopic’s track record of delivering commercially successful independent features and Indochina Productions’ decades of expertise providing world-class production infrastructure across Thailand and the broader region. In partnership with Simon, we are excited to launch BKK with such a strong slate of films and collaborating with exciting new filmmakers like Beau and Brandon, and with talented global actors like Andrew.”
Continued Simon: “The formation of BKK Films underscores Marcus, George, and my shared commitment to expanding international co-production opportunities while spotlighting Asian talent both in front of and behind the camera. By combining Storyoscopic’s development and packaging strength with Indochina’s on-the-ground production expertise, our joint venture is uniquely positioned to deliver cost-efficient, premium-scale productions tailored for the global marketplace. Together, we aim to position Thailand as a premier destination for elevated action cinema and internationally driven genre filmmaking.”
