After joining Screen Rant in January 2025, Guy became a Senior Features Writer in March of the same year, and now specializes in features about classic TV shows. With several years' experience writing for and editing TV, film and music publications, his areas of expertise include a wide range of genres, from comedies, animated series, and crime dramas, to Westerns and political thrillers.

Tom Hardy and Guy Ritchie might seem like a match made in screen gangster drama heaven, and fans of the pair’s series on Paramount+ would certainly concur. Yet, rumors have been rife about trouble in gangster paradise of late, with suggestions that their collaboration on the show may have ended.

Nevertheless, Hardy and Ritchie’s work on MobLand has proven so popular that the series has already been renewed for a third season, and Paramount are now doing everything in their power to ensure its main star continues to play Harry Da Souza for at least one more year. After all, future seasons wouldn’t be anywhere near as compelling without him.

Among the TV shows that Guy Ritchie has made following his transition to the small screen from movie directing, only the recent Prime Video release Young Sherlock can compare with MobLand’s overwhelming popularity. While this tale of modern London’s criminal underworld hasn’t won all the critics over, the series is undoubtedly exhilarating entertainment for anyone who watches it.

Of course, it isn’t just Tom Hardy providing this entertainment. The family tree of MobLand’s central crime syndicate features several more big names, including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Joanne Froggatt. The talents of this ensemble cast have combined with those of screenwriters Ronan Bennett and Jez Butterworth, under Ritchie’s direction, to produce an accomplished work of television.

There have already been updates about MobLand season 3 in recent weeks, with news from the writers’ room effectively confirming that this season is in development as of May 2026, even though season 2 is yet to be released. While the second season doesn’t have an official release window at this stage, it’s scheduled to come out later this year.

In light of the update about season 3’s development, MobLand clearly has Paramount’s full confidence going forward, while executive producer and lead director Guy Ritchie is set to be involved in the project for the foreseeable future. However, the same can’t necessarily be said for its lead actor.

Following reports of problems on set during the filming of season 2, news broke that MobLand season 3 might not feature Tom Hardy, after he was let go by producers. These reports have since been clarified, with a source close to the Paramount series confirming to Variety that Hardy has not been fired.

Regardless of any turbulence on set, though, MobLand has been a storming success onscreen so far, with each of its main roles tailor-made for the actors playing them. In addition to Tom Hardy’s bristling hardman Harry Da Souza, Helen Mirren shines as the Harrigan family’s conniving mastermind, and Pierce Brosnan excels as an overburdened crime boss.

Meanwhile, Geoff Bell, a veteran of British gangster movies including Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, gives a career-best performance as Richie Stevenson, a rival mobster to the Harrigans. Overall, this is a TV series which belongs alongside Ritchie’s most impressive big-screen releases, which fully earns Paramount’s commitment to its second and third seasons.

MobLand Season 3 Could Still Feature Tom Hardy

Ahead of its third season, there are meetings between Paramount and Tom Hardy about his MobLand future, with the situation still yet to be resolved. Nevertheless, things are looking a lot more positive on this front than they were in late May, when there appeared to be no way back for Hardy.

It’s hard to see how MobLand would work without its biggest star, regardless of the screen talent around him. It’s ultimately Harry Da Souza and the actor playing him who make the series such a captivating watch, as the enigmatic antihero it gets us to root for. Paramount will likely pull out all the stops to keep hold of Hardy.
