Sam is a News Editor for Collider and a known lover of all things sci-fi and horror. She spends her days editing news stories, coodrinating exclusives, and working closely with writers to deliver their best work.

When she's not editing the daily news, she can be found hanging out with her wife (they're probably rewatching Ghosts for the millionth time), tweeting about romance, and cooking something delicious while belting to Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter's latest hits at the top of her lungs.

Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for the series finale of Hacks.

I recently sat down with Tokarz for Collider’s Behind the Scenes series to unpack the stunning set pieces of the final season and the visual design of the series. While we spoke about a number of things — including Deborah’s iconic salt and pepper shakers, the Amazing Race episode, the design of The Diva and the set of Who’s Making Dinner?, creating Deborah-inspired places in New York and Paris, and much more — Tokarz also revealed a detail about the opening moments of the finale that will have you hitting play on Episode 1 of your rewatch of the series immediately.

While speaking about creating and then completely remaking the set of Who's Making Dinner?, Tokarz told Collider:

”And then we have the oner itself, which is a direct copy of the opening oner in Season 1, Episode 1. We counted the steps that Deborah takes from the stage, to steps between the beats, and we matched that with remarkably high fidelity, on our stage. So everything from the backdrop moving, we just found different ways that we could make it feel like she’s now in the shoes of Deborah Vance."

That alone is emblematic of the level of care and precision that went into every moment of Hacks from start to finish. Every member of the cast and crew put in 110% into making one of the most uniquely satisfying television shows of all time. As Ava literally walks in Deborah’s shoes, the show comes full circle, setting Ava up for her own career, her own dreams, and her own success, built on the foundation of her relationship with Deborah. By the end of the series, that relationship has changed both of their lives for the better.

‘Hacks’ Creators Push for Box Set Release of Complete Series

Following the series finale, creator trio Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky told Deadline of their intention to release the complete series on DVD and Blu-ray to ensure its continued existence amid controversial Hollywood mergers. “It’s such an important time for people to invest in physical media," said Aniello amid studio merger concerns and the increasingly popular practice of streamers just removing shows at the drop of a hat. She continued, saying, “And so, we’re really hoping to make a Hacks DVD box set, for one. We’re trying to make that happen. That’s an exclusive. Please go buy it, not because we make any money off of it. We just want to make sure the show stays in existence for as long as DVD players exist.” While HBO has not yet announced such a release, Aniello confirms there are plans to give fans a release “packed with DVD extras” and deleted scenes.
