The Walking Dead is set to leave Netflix this year, but there's a chance that the show will get a second life on the streaming platform. As of writing, all 177 episodes from the hit 2010 series are available on the streaming giant, but the license to host the series is about to come to an end. Now, Netflix wants to extend it before the deadline.

The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard's comic book series of the same name, set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. The series ran from 2010 to 2022, spanning 11 seasons, and was a major hit. Not only did it receive numerous accolades and praise from fans and critics alike, it also led to several spin-offs and has generated huge streaming numbers on Netflix, around half a billion hours worth of views in the second half of 2025.

According to a recent report, Netflix is currently in talks with AMC to extend its licensing deal, which could fetch around $300 million. AMC's CEO, Kiristin Dolan, has commented on the ongoing negotiations but hasn't confirmed whether anything has been made official, noting the company's decade-long "great relationship" with the streaming giant. Despite nothing being set in stone yet, she claims this deal is a good financial opportunity.

"There's more to report. We're just not ready to speak about it now. We're very optimistic about the value of the content and our opportunity to monetize it."

Other Zombie Apocalypse Shows To Stream On Netflix

If a new deal hasn't been struck, and The Walking Dead leaves Netflix this year, the streaming giant has a library of other post-apocalyptic zombie titles that could scratch that horror itch. The first is All of Us Are Dead, a 2022 coming-of-age horror K-drama that follows a group of students trapped in their school after a zombie outbreak. The show was a massive hit, earning a critics' score of 89% and an audience score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoesand generating over 95 million hours of viewing on Netflix in 2025. It has been reported that Season 2 was greenlit, where it follows Nam On-jo (Park Ji-hu), who is now a university student, trying to move on from the trauma from the previous season, but has to fight for survival once again. Its release date has not yet been announced.

Another show worth watching that isn't completely horror but more comedic is Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. This anime series premiered in 2023 and comprises 12 episodes, following Akira, a former salaryman who takes advantage of post-apocalyptic Tokyo to live his life to the fullest by fulfilling his bucket list. A live-action film adaptation was released that same year, and both are available to stream on Netflix.
