Warning: Major SPOILERS lie ahead for The Terror: The Devil in Silver!Miss Chris finally came to her senses in The Terror season 3's ending, but CCH Pounder is keeping her character's fate to herself.

Based on the horror novel The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle, who was also co-creator and co-showrunner of the new season, the four-time Emmy nominee starred as Miss Chris, the charge nurse of the decaying New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. While initially acting as a pseudo antagonist to Dan Stevens' Pepper and the other patients, The Terror season 3's ending sees Miss Chris come around to help them all fight the eponymous entity.

Now, in an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns ahead of the show's premiere, CCH Pounder has shared some insight into Miss Chris' actions in The Terror: The Devil in Silver's ending. When asked about helping b's Loochie escape from New Hyde amid the finale's chaos, the Emmy winner explained that her character "came to the realization that it was on her" to actually help the young patient rather than leave them behind:

CCH Pounder: There's nobody else here. It's you. And I think in the conversations that we have around the coffee brewer, hopefully one day somebody will say, "It's me. I've got to do something about this." This is a genre, it's for entertainment, but it's reflecting an incredible part of our system right now. So here we go. Make a decision, get on with it. Let's see what happens.

Turning to Miss Chris' ambiguous fate, as The Terror season 3's actual ending doesn't show whether she escapes New Hyde, Pounder chuckled as she affirmed that "I know everything" about where her character went. Asked if she could share any insight, the star simply shared that "I think [audiences] will enjoy making that decision."

Co-created by LaValle and Halt and Catch Fire's Christ Cantwell, The Terror: The Devil in Silver did feature a variety of changes from its source novel, particularly when it came to its ending. The book featured multiple patients initially attempting to strangle to death Arnold Visserplein, the elderly patient whom the eponymous entity uses as a vessel, only for Pepper to carry him away and fall through the floor with him down multiple levels, resulting in Arnold's death.

For Miss Chris, in particular, The Devil in Silver's ending originally saw her still working as a nurse at New Hyde, albeit properly considering leaving her job after her various chilling experiences at the hospital. She also was attempting to convince the new doctor that Pepper was not mentally insane, to which he was dismissive and ready to remain in order to be a friendly face for new admits.

As for The Terror season 3's ending, LaValle and Cantwell instead elected to have Miss Chris be more involved in fighting the titular devil, teaming with Pepper and Loochie in order to try and take it down for good. When it took on a more monstrous form in the midst of a hurricane and killed multiple people, Pounder's character opened a side door for Loochie to properly escape the facility, while also sharing her plans to release documents containing the truth about the devil and the facility to the world.

10 Creepy TV Shows To Watch If You Loved The Terror

The historical fantasy horror series The Terror blends these genres for fantastic results, leaving viewers hoping for more similar TV series.

While her ultimate fate may be a mystery, Miss Chris' decision to help Pepper and Loochie in The Terror: The Devil in Silver ultimately makes a lot of sense in the grand scheme of the show. A brief glimpse at her home life showed that she was a mother and grandmother, living with her family, and as such her maternal instinct likely kicked in in a big way once the stakes threatened Loochie. Additionally, she was often seen questioning Dr. Anand's methods in containing the devil, and therefore was bound to finally want to take the fight to it.

Even though the changes to the book may have left a few questions unanswered, LaValle and Cantwell previously shared with ScreenRant that the goal was to give The Terror: The Devil in Silver a different thematic send-off, leaving viewers on a hopeful note of Pepper fighting both his own demons and the eponymous one as he becomes its new vessel. With the new season currently holding an all-time Rotten Tomatoes record of the highest critical score yet, sitting at a 95% "Certified Fresh" approval rating, it seems clear that even ambiguous character fates and mysteries didn't deter critics.
