It is hard to believe that earlier this week, we officially "celebrated" the eight-year anniversary of the first, and only, The Elder Scrolls VI trailer that was announced back in 2018 during E3. As the next mainline installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise, The Elder Scrolls VI will mark the first entry since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released back in 2011. So, put simply, fans have been waiting a hell of a long time.
However, with no news, trailers, or even a release window announced since The Elder Scrolls VI was first unveiled, it is safe to say that fans are starting to lose hope, and it does not help that Bethesda head Todd Howard himself admitted that the game was announced too soon back in April. With many not expecting The Elder Scrolls VI to launch until 2030 at the earliest, it is set to be a difficult few years for both Bethesda and its dedicated fanbase.
It was during the recent Summer Game Fest celebrations that fans were left disappointed once again, when multiple trailers began with the words 'Bethesda Presents'. As you can imagine, hype was off the charts with fans believing that this was finally the time that they would receive the next official look at The Elder Scrolls VI. However, it took mere seconds for us all to crash back down to reality, when the trailers were dedicated to the likes of Fallout 76 and the DOOM franchise.
Now, a week on, and we have gone back to believing that The Elder Scrolls VI may never come to fruition, and it was a recent announcement that made matters even worse.
As mentioned, the announcement for The Elder Scrolls VI officially celebrated its eighth anniversary this week, and as such, many social media posts dedicated to gaming news broke the heartbreaking news. However, it was one quote Tweet that gained traction, and it came courtesy of Twitter/X user wolfyvelvet. "The way this cover itself is starting to look dated," they shared. "Omg, how were Bethesda allowed to tease this?"
With 14,000 likes, it is safe to say that many agree that the only image we have of The Elder Scrolls VI indeed looks pretty outdated, and it does make perfect sense. After all, technology has come a long way in the past eight years, and graphics are a lot more realistic. We can only hope that this is not a sign of the full product whenever it finally launches.
"Fallout fans in the corner seeing this and realizing it'll take another decade for their turn," another user commented, referring to Fallout 5, which is expected to launch after The Elder Scrolls VI. Another said, "I hate how this kind of inspired a more frequent phenomenon of studios announcing and giving us trailers for games coming out in like 2-3 or even 4 years later."
For now, we can only hope that the wait for The Elder Scrolls VI will be worth it, and it stops the current trend of announcing games years before they are ready to launch.
