The most unexpected hit of the year so far, The Tank, has finally been removed from the number one spot on the global Prime Video list. The World War II psychological drama debuted earlier this year and emerged as a word-of-mouth sensation to claim the Prime Video crown. It remained the streamer's most-watched film for several weeks and became Prime Video's biggest German-language original of all time. Earlier this week, it was overtaken by the action-comedy film The Wrecking Crew, starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista. The Wrecking Crew arrived only a few weeks after Bautista's action film Trap House, which also reached the top spot on Prime Video.
The Wrecking Crew was directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, who previously directed the little-seen DC Extended Universe superhero film Blue Beetle. Like that movie, The Wrecking Crew seems to have been appreciated by critics and audiences alike. It currently holds a "Certified Fresh" 79% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, Collider's Jeff Ewing wrote, "The mystery at its core isn't necessarily going to rival the best film noir or thriller plotting, but it's fun, with adrenaline-pumping action, delivering a lot of fun in a sunny, gorgeous locale." The Tank, however, doesn't yet have a Rotten Tomatoes score. Directed by Dennis Gansel, the movie follows a crew of German soldiers sent behind enemy lines to retrieve their commandant during World War II.
Jason Momoa Has a Major Movie Lined Up
Momoa is coming off the blockbuster A Minecraft Movie, which made nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office last year. Like director Soto, he was a part of the now-defunct DCEU, having played Aquaman in numerous movies. He will now star as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film, which is part of the rebooted DC Universe overseen by James Gunn. Momoa is also expected to reprise his role from Denis Villeneuve's first Dune film in the upcoming Dune: Part Three, which is slated for a December release. Bautista, on the other hand, starred in a successful superhero franchise himself — the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Incidentally, he appeared in Dune: Part Two, which Momoa sat out.
Also starring Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, and Morena Baccarin, among others, The Wrecking Crew is streaming on Prime Video.
