The Simpsons star Nancy Cartwright revealed when she thinks the beloved animated show will finally conclude ahead of the 38th season premiere.

The 68-year-old actress, who is known for voicing Bart Simpson and other characters on the series, offered her thoughts on the topic during an episode of the Inside Of You podcast that dropped this week. 

The voice star also brings characters such as Maggie Simpson, Ralph Wiggum, Todd Flanders and Nelson Muntz to life on the show. 

At one point during the conversation, host Michael Rosenbaum asked, 'How long do you think The Simpsons will go?' 

Cartwright then expressed she believes the series will not go past 40 seasons. 

Rosenbaum confirmed that she thought 40 could be the last, and she replied, 'It's my opinion.'

However, she explained that she still wanted to be a part of the show if it continued on past 40 seasons. 

'What if they said, "We wanna keep going?" the host questioned.  

The Emmy winner shared that if everyone is 'still alive,' then 'we'll keep going.'

Rosenbaum followed up with, 'Would you go as long as they wanted to keep going?' to which the actress answered, 'Absolutely.' 

Daily Mail has reached out to a representative for Cartwright for comment, but has yet to hear back. 

Cartwright has been voicing Bart Simpson since the animated family made its TV debut in 1987 as part of The Tracey Ullman Show. 

The Simpsons became a series in 1989 and has since broadcasted over 800 episodes. 

It is the longest-running American animated series as well as the longest-running American scripted primetime TV series and longest-running sitcom in the U.S. 

The Simpsons has additionally raked in numerous accolades over the years, including 37 Primetime Emmy Awards. 

Last year in April, the animated sitcom was renewed through season 40 

A film titled The Simpsons Movie hit theaters back in 2007, and a sequel is slated to premiere next year in 2027. 

Back in February, showrunner Matt Selman issued a major update on the future of The Simpsons and shared plans on how it could come to an end. 

'If the show ever did end, there's no finale,' he revealed to The Wrap. 

'It would just be a regular episode that has the family in it. Probably a little Easter egg here and there, but no "I'm going to miss this place."' 

Selman also discussed how the team had done a 'parody' finale which aired back in September 2024. 

'We did an episode about a year-and-a-half ago that was like a parody of the series finale,' he recalled. 

'We jammed every possible series finale concept into one show, so that was my way of saying we're never going to do a series finale.'

The showrunner also opened up about how the characters and the show's setting of Springfield haven't changed much over the years. 

'The show isn't supposed to change. The characters reset every week. It's like Groundhog Day but they don't know it - and they don't die that much.'

The 800th episode of The Simpsons aired on Fox earlier this year on February 15. 

During an interview with the Associated Press last year, Cartwright opened up on voicing Bart Simpson for multiple decades. 

'It's become such a part of my lifestyle,' she said. 'I'm used to doing it all the time, and I'm not looking forward to the day when we're done.'

The star also shared that 'there are still people that yet don't know that it's a woman that does the voice.'

The 38th season of The Simpsons is set to premiere next month on September 27 on Fox.  

Cartwright is also notably the aunt of actress and singer Sabrina Carpenter.
