Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson officially made his Fast & Furious return in 2023, and his involvement in the next film sets up an underrated duo's long-awaited reunion. Having first appeared in 2011's Fast Five, The Rock's Luke Hobbs became a major part of the franchise, featuring in a total of 6 Fast & Furious movies, including his Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. The actor's feud with Vin Diesel did result in Hobbs being absent from F9, but thankfully, Dwayne Johnson returned in Fast X, meaning he will once again have a crucial role in the final mainline movie.

Despite the saga coming to an end, the action franchise seems likely to continue through spinoffs, with Johnson already having a project in the works. The Rock confirmed that Fast & Furious was developing a solo Hobbs spinoff, presumably in an attempt to follow up Hobbs & Shaw's success while cashing in on Johnson's star power. Although this is an exciting next step for the series, it's unclear how many characters from the main movies will be involved, but the actor's upcoming role in Fast & Furious 11 still gives him one more chance to complete an exciting reunion.

Hobbs Needs To Have Another Scene With Roman Now That He’s Back Among The Main Cast

The Duo Should Reunite Before The Main Movies Come To An End

Despite Hobbs and Roman having a limited number of interactions together throughout their time in the Fast & Furious franchise, the duo should share at least one more scene now that The Rock is back. Naturally, Hobbs will likely team with some of the bigger names, as his feud with Dante means he will almost certainly cross paths with Dom once again. Additionally, he may have some run-ins with Letty and Shaw given their history, but a one-on-one scene with Roman is far from guaranteed; however, the action series shouldn't waste having both actors involved in the final outing.

It has been over seven years since the duo last appeared alongside one another, and by the time Fast & Furious 11 comes out, it'll be closer to nine. With audiences being deprived of their fantastic chemistry for so long, it would be a missed opportunity to keep Johnson and Gibson apart, especially since they've provided some of Fast & Furious' funniest scenes. Every time the two have gotten to work with each other in previous movies, they've delivered, and with the main story coming to an end, they deserve to at least have a final interaction.

Roman & Hobbs Are Fast & Furious’ Most Underrated Duo

The Rock & Tyrese Gibson Have Great On-Screen Chemistry

Fast & Furious has had plenty of great duos throughout its two-decade lifespan, but Roman and Hobbs are easily its most underrated. Roman most commonly shares the screen with Tej - with Ramsey joining their dynamic in recent years - while Shaw has become Hobbs' main partner, largely thanks to the spinoff. However, whenever Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese Gibson are paired together, it's usually golden as they bounce off each other perfectly, leading to some hilarious scenes. Hobbs shooting the vending machine after Roman interrupts his briefing to buy a snack is a great example of their light-hearted humor.

Hobbs redirecting a missile in Fate of the Furious while Roman drives the car is both chaotic yet comedic all at once, and it remains one of the franchise's most memorable moments.

Additionally, Hobbs redirecting a missile in Fate of the Furious while Roman drives the car is both chaotic yet comedic all at once, and it remains one of the franchise's most memorable moments. Even their small interaction during Fast & Furious 6's BBQ scene is a prime example of how brilliantly the two characters work together, and the fact they haven't featured together more exposes Fast & Furious' huge character interaction problem. Still, even though their time together has been limited, they always provide incredible entertainment, making Roman and Hobbs' team-ups a highlight of the franchise.

Fast & Furious 11’s Premise Could Make Hobbs & Roman’s Reunion Complicated

The Serious Story & Hobbs' Separation From The Main Crew Makes An Interaction With Roman Difficult

Although Johnson's return makes Fast & Furious 11 the perfect time for a Roman reunion, the movie's premise will make it difficult. Hobbs' Fast X scene set up a personal story with Dante, and while he will likely team up with the central characters at some point, it could take some time to get there. Moreover, Roman was last seen inside a plane that was shot down, leaving his fate unknown. While he'll undoubtedly be back, his mission with Han, Tej, and Ramesy appears to be separate from Hobbs', meaning the two may not team up until the final arc.

Fast & Furious 11 Can Finally Bring Back The Real Luke Hobbs After The Rock’s Fast X Return

Fast & Furious 11 needs to bring back the real Luke Hobbs, not the generic Dwayne Johnson character he's become, after his Fast X return.

Assuming the entire crew get together to create one final plan and execute the mission as a team, it only leaves a small window for Hobbs and Roman to interact. With the main saga entering its final hour or so, the stakes will be incredibly high, making it difficult to insert too many humorous moments. However, despite these obstacles, Fast & Furious has always been good at implementing comedy, even in rather intense situations, meaning as long as Roman and Hobbs are on the same team, there is still a small chance they can have one more stand-out moment together.
