We’re only a few episodes into the sophomore season of The Pitt, but HBO already has an update on the third season of Noah Wyle’s hit medical drama. The studio renewed The Pitt for a third season several days before the Season 2 premiere, showing extraordinary faith that The Pitt Season 2 would be a success. It’s lived up to the hype thus far, and during a recent interview to discuss the second season, HBO Max boss Casey Bloys was asked about a potential release window for The Pitt Season 3.

Bloys admitted that he “doesn’t know an exact date,” but he did confirm that the plan is for the show to continue releasing new episodes annually. “Yes, the idea is to keep it on on an annual basis. One of the big goals in putting a show like this on the air was to be able to bring it back annually. That is an important part of this equation.” The Pitt is HBO’s first original medical drama, and it was viewed as something of a gamble heading into the first season. Now, it’s become a flagship property, one that Bloys has even said he thinks will become HBO’s version of Grey’s Anatomy.

The Pitt Season 2 jumped forward several months to The Fourth of July, which is Dr. Robby’s final day at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center for a while before he goes on a sabbatical. Taking over for him is Dr. Al-Hashimi, who is much more analytics-driven and willing to bring AI into the emergency room to help cut costs and save time. This doesn’t exactly fly with Dr. Robby, but the two are getting along and learning to work with each other more by the hour.

A Fan-Favorite Character Is Still Absent From ‘The Pitt’ Season 2

One beloved character from The Pitt Season 1 who has yet to be introduced in Season 2 is Dr. Jack Abbot, played by Shawn Hatosy. It was also reported over the summer that Hatosy will direct an episode of The Pitt Season 2, which will likely be one of the episodes he also stars in. He may return near the end of the season to once again help out with another tragedy as he did in Season 1.

Check out the first four episodes of The Pitt Season 2 on HBO Max and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the show.
