Different iterations Bond have appeared recently. The audio drama Young Bond: SilverFin, based on the 2005 novel by Charlie Higson, will be released in September, and Isaac Rouse will be playing the lead role. In the novel on which that drama is based, Bond is only 13 years old, suggesting that this will be a much younger iteration.
Patrick Gibson has also played Bond lately, with the release of the 2026 video game 007: First Light. The prequel game was incredibly well received, with many calling it the best Bond game ever made. Considering Amazon Game Studios' involvement with the game, this vision may be influential on the next film, coming from the related Amazon MGM Studios.
The next Bond is an incredibly culturally important role that will certainly be carried on for multiple films, perhaps even defining the career of whoever is cast. As a result, there are many actors who are now vying for the famous role, although the most popular rumored name doesn't fit what is known about this next installment.
Callum Turner Does Not Fit With What Bond 26 Is Reportedly Looking For
Callum Turner has recently become the most discussed rumored name for James Bond, but the Eternity star doesn't match anything else known about this new iteration. With casting for Bond set to continue in August, the actor is currently the odds-on favorite to eventually secure the role, above names like Jack Lowden and Jack O'Connell.
This does not make sense because it contradicts everything known about the next Bond. Last year, after Denis Villeneuve was confirmed to be helming the new film, little was shared about the upcoming movie except for one important detail.
A shortlist for James Bond actors came out of Amazon last year, revealing that the studio was looking for a younger actor to take on the role. This included names of people exclusively in their twenties at the time, including Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi, making it clear that the studio plans on a younger Bond.
Callum Turner could be a good fit for a certain Bond, but at 36 years old, the same age as the previously rumored Aaron Taylor-Johnson, he is unfortunately slightly too old for the kind of Bond movie that Amazon looks to be making.
Could Turner Still Be In The Running For James Bond?
Things change during development, and it is not impossible that Amazon might still be open to having a 36-year-old actor take on the iconic role, so long as the performance is strong enough. The casting process has been kept well under wraps, with only the 26-year-old Tom Francis known to have auditioned for the role.
Turner has the style and charisma that could make for an interesting James Bond, but the fact that he is currently only one year younger than Daniel Craig was when he was announced to be taking on the role in 2005 makes his casting seem less likely. Amazon seems to want a younger Bond, and Turner wouldn't fit that iteration.
Casting for James Bond could still be announced this year, and it is possible that, in the end, Callum Turner could wind up being confirmed for the role. After all, despite seemingly not matching what the studio is looking for, his name is still often cited as a contender.
