James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
The Legend of Zelda is officially middle-aged this year, with the beloved franchise marking a staggering 40 years since the first release dropped for the Famicom Disk System back in 1986. Since then, we have enjoyed 21 entries in the mainline single-player series, with that number nearly doubling if you include all the spin-offs and offshoots over the years.
As you might expect, with a storied history like that, Zelda has built up an army of fans who are all eagerly waiting to hear what's coming next. Whilst Nintendo remains tight-lipped on the next game in the single-player narrative, they are still dropping support for the most recent game in the series, including via a new product that adds to an already exciting range.
Over on Twitter/X, the official page for Nintendo of America confirming the release of a new Zelda amiibo, which actually grants access to a pretty cool in-game appearance for Tears of the Kingdom.
"The Mineru’s Construct amiibo arrives Sept. 17! This amiibo features articulated arms that you can pose. Tap it in-game in The Legend of #Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to receive a unique design for Link’s paraglider," the post read.
If you have played through Tears of the Kingdom already, you'll remember Mineru's Construct as the highly customizable mech that has enabled players to create huge roving weapons with their creativity. The company didn't confirm the price in their original post, with that likely to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Many of the comments were predictably excited, with one saying, "This looks awesome! I’ve been wondering when it would drop."
"I've been asking for them to make an amiibo for this character since I unlocked it to use in the game. I'm also still playing Tears of the Kingdom like millions of other people. So I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more people besides me asked for this amiibo as well," another added.
Others think its release could herald the arrival of even more major announcements as part of the anniversary, with one saying, "So now, I have a feeling we'll have another Zelda announcement soon, around the release date. It might not be anything major, but it feels too random of a release date. Has to be a reason, especially since it's not a launch release like the other Zelda amiibo last June.
NintendoAs Zelda fans, it's just going to be a case of sitting tight and waiting to hear more from Nintendo about what their plans are for the franchise this year. But with the movie adaptation on the way and the Switch 2 just asking for a game to debut, it should be an exciting time for the foreseeable future.
