The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner revealed a shocking diagnosis that provides Bachelor Nation with a much better idea of what happened to his marriage with Theresa Nist, potentially changing his perception after his reputation was so terribly damaged. Gerry, who was the lead of The Golden Bachelor season 1, struggled through the post-season after it was revealed that a lot of his persona had been an act on screen. After marrying Theresa in a lavish live TV wedding, the couple quickly announced their divorce just months later, leaving Bachelor Nation with a lot more questions than they had answers.
In an exclusive interview with People, Gerry revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer just weeks before he and Theresa came to the decision to split up. "As Theresa and I were trying very hard to find our lifestyle and where we were going to live and how we were going to make our life work, I was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer," Gerry revealed, explaining that he'd found out about his bone marrow cancer after a visit to his orthopedist about a shoulder injury. Gerry shared that his diagnosis made Theresa, "less of a priority" than spending time with family.
