The Final Episodes Of Alan Tudyk’s Hit Firefly Replacement Sci-Fi Series Officially Release On Netflix Next Month

When it comes to sci-fi and fantasy properties, Alan Tudyk is one of the many actors in Hollywood to have visited those genres numerous times.

The beloved Firefly star has, throughout his career, brought his presence to multiple adventures in the large fantasy genre, and soon, Tudyk is making his return to the short-lived TV show. However, before he reprises the role of Wash, one of the actor's other beloved shows is about to head back to streaming for its remaining episodes.

Resident Alien season 4, which marked the final one for the sci-fi series, will officially be heading to Netflix on June 6. This comes nearly a year after the series finale ended on August 8, 2025.

In Resident Alien, Tudyk played Harry Vanderspeigle, who is, in fact, an alien, as he ended up killing the real doctor before taking his identity. The dramedy project began airing on SYFY back in January 2021, and is based on Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse's comic series of the same name, which was published by Dark Horse Comics.

The dramedy project's run began on SYFY back in January 2021, before airing its final season in 2025. The Resident Alien cast featured Corey Reynolds as Sheriff Mike Thompson, Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees, Alice Wetterlund as D'arcy Bloom​​​​​​​, and Meredith Garretson as Kate Hawthorne.

Before the show came back in August, it was announced on July 24, 2025, that Resident Alien season 4 would be the final one for the series. This allowed the cast and crew to take a final bow at San Diego Comic-Con one week later on July 31.

The reason behind the cancellation came down to ratings, as Resident Alien struggled to perform for SYFY despite having strong numbers on Netflix. But in the end, the show's production costs were too high, which caused the cable network to pull the plug.

In ScreenRant's Resident Alien season 4 review, the final batch of episodes was praised for how it centered "on the theme of family." The swan-song season was also celebrated for how it went "from babies to parents and couples, the show gives a lot of time and attention to people and their individual relationships."

At the time of this story's publication, Resident Alien season 4 is holding a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on seven reviews, and 90% on the Popcornmeter. Out of all the Resident Alien seasons, the final one is considered one of the show's strongest ones.

While Resident Alien ended sooner than some expected, Tudyk will be part of the Firefly revival, which will be an animated sequel featuring the original cast voicing their characters. The new series has Marc Guggenheim and Tara Butters set as the showrunners, but no release date has been revealed yet.
