EXCLUSIVE: Gabriel Mascaro’s 2025 Berlin Silver Bear winner The Blue Trail has been set by Dekanalog for an April 3 launch in NY (Angelika) and LA (Nuart) with a national expansion in the weeks to follow.
The Brazilian sci-fi drama follows 77-year-old Tereza, who receives an official government order to relocate from a small industrialized town in the Amazon to a senior housing colony where elders can enjoy the remaining years of their lives. Rodrigo Santoro and Denise Weingard star. Above is a first domestic trailer for the movie.
The well-traveled festival film is produced by Desvia Filmes (Brazil) and Cinevinay (Mexico). Sales for the title are being handled by Lucky Number. Mascaro’s previous credits include Divine Love and Neon Bull.
The film is the latest in a series of Brazilian movies to catch fire at festivals and secure U.S. distribution. The Secret Agent was recently nominated for three Oscars, including Best Picture, becoming the second consecutive Brazilian movie to do so after I’m Still Here.
