Ahead of season 4, Prime Video has fixed Reacher's awful scheduling format. Nick Santora's adaptation of Lee Child's novels is one of the most popular shows in the 2020s, with Alan Ritchson's version of the character becoming the definitive iteration despite Tom Cruise's big-screen take. Three seasons in, Reacher has maintained its popularity and has even grown its fan-base, thanks to it being able to be binged on Prime Video.

So far, Prime Video has adapted Child's Killing Floor, Bad Luck and Trouble, and Persuader, with each book encompassing an eight-episode season. As previously confirmed, Reacher season 4 will tackle the 14th installment in Child's series, Gone Tomorrow. Despite initial assumptions that it would be rolled out towards the end of the year, the streamer has confirmed that new episodes of Alan Ritchson's new project will start rolling out on August 12, 2026. However, what's not being talked about enough is the fact that it hasn't fallen trap into streaming's worst trend.

Prime Video Isn't Splitting Reacher Season 4 Into Two Parts

When Prime Video announced Reacher season 4's premiere, it also confirmed the episodic rollout for the show. Following the last two cycles, the first three episodes will drop at once on August 12, with the remaining outings releasing every week. That said, instead of a major break in the middle of its run, Prime Video is sticking to this format for all eight episodes of the season — the same way that it has done in the last two cycles. For context, Reacher season 1 had a more traditional streaming drop, making the whole season available to stream in one go.

After that, however, Prime Video shifted to the weekly release format, which was gaining traction at that time. This was understandable, as the schedule allowed the show to stay at the forefront of TV and pop culture conversation for much longer. While the binge model still has its fans and perks, the truth of the matter is, it's difficult to maintain relevancy with the model, especially given the sheer number of new shows coming.

Why Streamers Splitting Seasons Into Two Parts Is So Frustrating

Netflix is notorious for breaking up their seasons into two parts, with Bridgerton and Stranger Things — two of its most popular shows. This is particularly frustrating, as it contradicts the original idea for streaming projects. Unlike traditional broadcasts, the initial appeal of these platforms was to give people the chance to sit down and binge shows. They have slightly moved away from that model when the weekly drop became the norm. However, splitting a season with just 8 to 10 episodes already takes it too far.

Considering Reacher's success, Prime Video could have definitely followed suit for season 4. Luckily, it doesn't. Maintaining a single release schedule for arguably its most successful original project. What's more impressive is that once Reacher season 4 is done, it's immediately releasing its first ever spinoff, Neagley, which means that viewers will get more content from the franchise in 2026, with a total of 16 episodes.
