An experienced Editor representing Canada via Screen Rant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com.

His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023.

While Studio Ghibli was already having a solid year in 2026, bringing new stories to one of Hayao Miyazaki's greatest works, the fun doesn't stop there. For fans unable to go to Ghibli Park in Japan, the latest exciting confirmation brings Miyazaki's final '80s classic to bigger screens than ever, remastered in 4K resolution.

More specifically, thanks to a new trailer released by North American distributor GKIDS, fans will be able to see Kiki's Delivery Service in select IMAX theaters across the United States and Canada. The trailer, alongside a gorgeous new poster, confirms this limited rerelease will start on March 13, 2026, so it's best to refresh your local box office's showtimes!

Kiki's Delivery Service Will Have Its Biggest Rerelease Ever

Studio Ghibli's library is a lauded anime monolith in today's standards, but Kiki's Delivery Service debuted in 1989, well before audiences developed a wider appreciation for the studio's work following 2000's Spirited Away. With this March 13 return, longtime lovers of one of Ghibli's most uplifting classics will be able to see it in its largest screening format ever.

Prized as a seminal coming-of-age story in which its eponymous witch protagonist finds herself on a sudden journey toward independence and seeking her true purpose, Kiki's Delivery Service is timeless over 36 years later. It's a common favorite among anime fans, with even the youngest generation of viewers flocking to its timeless themes.

Itself based on the eponymous Eiko Kadono novel, the movie follows 13-year-old Kiki strikes out on her own. Accompanied by her familiar spirit, the talking cat Jiji, Kiki winds up in a new town where she starts the "Witch Delivery Service" delivering goods while riding her broomstick, encountering a crossroads when her resolve and sense of purpose are tested.

Hayao Miyazaki May Not Be Out of the Game Yet

Fans have long given up on the notion that Miyazaki, director of Kiki's Delivery Service and many other timeless Ghibli hits through 2023, will truly retire from the scene. It's certainly encouraging, especially following remarks such as those given in May 2024 about Miyazaki's next project as relayed by his son and fellow director, Goro Miyazaki.

While not specifically confirmed as his next film project, Miyazaki's son confirmed the visionary director is working on a "nostalgic action-adventure story". This description matches multiple Ghibli classics, making it less than a stretch to suspect it's his next project, should he get it off the ground with Ghibli.

"And that's what he's working on now. Whether it will actually become his next film, I don't know, but it’s a nostalgic action-adventure story, and I'm looking forward to it."

But with new stories coming for Howl's Moving Castle via pamphlets written by Shion Miura distributed at the Howl's Castle location on February 28, 2026, more is coming for curious Ghibli fans in Japan. This includes the Earwig and the Witch at The House of Witches on March 14, and Kiki's Delivery Service at Okino Residence starting April 29.
