Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.
Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.
Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.
As I'm sure most gamers know, Steam is a great place to go for free games. Whether you're looking for a limited-time bargain on a major AAA release, or a completely free indie game, there's always something new and free to play.
There are so many free games on Steam, in fact, that it can be more than a little daunting. Where exactly is the best place to start? Which games deserve your attention while your backlog continues to grow and screams for mercy? Well, whether you have the time right now or not, you'll want to add this new free game to your library, because it won't stay free for long.
At the time of writing, you have four days to download and keep the 2024 game 8AM forever. The game is officially 100 percent off until April 27, so move fast and add it to your library before it goes back up to full price.
Developed by David Gallardo, 8AM is described as "a suspense game where you find yourself trapped in a room, watching a family through cameras. Without explanations, you must decide if strange events occur night after night. Being correct extends the time, seeking your release by 8:00 a.m."
Since its initial release in 2024, 8AM has garnered very positive reviews on Steam, with an overall rating of 81 percent based on over 100 user reviews.
One review reads: "I do love anomaly/hidden object games, some of which are horror and some of which are more cute and cosy. This is not particularly scary or unsettling but I enjoy it nonetheless and have purchased the other games in the series too."
If this horror game doesn't quite fit the bill for you, there are plenty of other freebies on Steam right now. For instance, there's an open-world survival game that you can download and keep until April 25, so time is running out for that one.
An interactive historical fiction game called Aeonic is also completely free until April 29. Those don't float your boat? Legends of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Manager and Sentience: The Android's Tale are both free for just a few more hours at the time of writing, so be sure to claim those on Steam while you still can.
