Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.
Ever since transitioning from Marvel’s Earth-1610 Ultimate universe to the mainline Earth-616 universe, Miles Morales’ Spider-Man has enjoyed mainstream success in the eponymous, ongoing comic book series Miles Morales: Spider-Man. Miles’ most popular and iconic outings are undoubtedly the animated Spider-Verse movies and Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games, but he has still played a significant role in comics for nearly a decade and a half.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will conclude what could well be one of the best comic-related movie trilogies of all time when it is released in theaters on June 18, 2027. Until then, though, fans can experience a brand-new era of Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Cody Ziglar and Federico Vicentini’s Miles Morales: Spider-Man run ended at issue #42 (a special and recurring number in Miles lore) in January of this year, so it is about time that it is being picked back up with a new creative team.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man Is Officially Continuing
Miles Morales: Spider-Man is officially back this summer with a new run from writer Bryan Edward Hill (Blade: Red Band, Ultimate Black Panther) and artist Nico Leon (Marvel Rivals Infinity Comic, Psylocke: Ninja). As far as new eras and runs go, Hill and Leon’s appears fairly standard, with Miles donning his classic costume again and the appropriate amount of intrigue and suspense taking shape in the form of a “dark threat from the past.”
“THE NEXT ERA OF MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN STARTS NOW!
MILES MORALES is back in black (and red)! SPIDER-MAN thinks he has it allllll handled: homework, super-villains... a new school crush?? No, no — Miles is focused on what matters: helping the good folks of Brooklyn. Friendly. Neighborhood. Spider-Manning at his best! But a vengeful villain from Jeff Morales’ past with SHIELD threatens to destroy not only Spider-Man — but the entire Morales family!”
Most notably, perhaps, is that Miles apparently has a “new school crush,” suggesting that he will no longer be in a romantic relationship with Tiana Toomes, also known as Starling. This rewrite alone could divide Miles Morales: Spider-Man’s readership if so, and thus, it will be fascinating to see who may be vying for Miles’ love at school. A more descriptive synopsis of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1, as per the official Marvel website, reads as follows:
“Upon returning to Brooklyn after a chaotic trip to the Ultimate Universe, Miles is inundated with the trials and tribulations of the teenage superhero struggle—fighting through super villains (and homework) and still finding time for date night or dinner with the folks. So, it’s a bit of an unwelcome surprise when a dangerous secret from his father’s S.H.I.E.L.D. past returns with a vengeance and threatens the lives of everyone he holds dear.”
Miles Morales’ New Era Begins This Summer
Thankfully, the wait will not be long until Miles Morales: Spider-Man’s new run begins. And, somewhat amusingly, it potentially already has an expiration date if it can be presumed that Hill’s run will obligatorily decide to end on its 42nd issue, too, following the same tradition that Ziglar’s and Ahmed’s have.
Regardless, a new run in Miles Morales: Spider-Man’s ongoing comic is a boon. Because its first issue is arriving in August, that lands it roughly in the same ballpark as The Amazing Spider-Man legacy issues #998 and #999, and the Spider-Heroes’ polarizing Spider-Versity event will be concluding with the limited series’ fifth and final issue.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 is scheduled to be released on August 12, 2026.
