While we're still a few days out from the next major Steam sale, there are still plenty of excellent games being offered at record-low deals that it's almost hard to keep track of them all. One qualifier is an adventure series with scores ranging all the way up to 99% positive reviews on Steam, making it a deal you shouldn't miss.
All three games in the Sam & Max remastered trilogy are currently on sale, with a brand-new Steam bundle that offers an even bigger discount when combined. Starring a chaotic duo of two incredibly charismatic anthropomorphic detectives, the episodic trilogy follows the two freelance police officers solving some of the strangest cases you'll come across, all wrapped up in a comedic noir parody. The discounted price is available until March 19.
Sam & Max Have Plenty To Enjoy For Puzzle Fans
Despite the point-and-click gameplay of Sam & Max being a little dated by today's standards, the puzzle trilogy is among the best mystery games in the genre, with all 16 cases spread across the three games providing plenty of challenging and incredibly creative mysteries to solve. Whether saving the world from intergalactic space apes, a hypnotized president, or child-stars turned supervillains, each of the cases you'll embark on is just as unpredictable as the last.
While the Sam & Max games are primarily a sharply comedic puzzle game first, the story is offered in a linear fashion that builds upon the relationships of its characters with each additional entry. With a colorful cast of characters that becomes more familiar through each outing, the charming banter Sam & Max offers some hilarious and quotable lines that you might have even heard out of context without knowing, helping earn the series' following Steam review scores:
- Sam & Max Hit The Road — 95% Positive
- Sam & Max: Save The World — 93% Positive
- Sam & Max: Beyond Time & Space — 99% Positive
- Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse — 98% Positive
To top it all off, the original creators spent four years releasing remastered editions of the classic point-and-click adventure games to bring their visuals, audio, and gameplay mechanics up to more modern standards, not including the original pixel game Sam & Max: Hit The Road from 1993, and the less-than-stellar VR game.
The Remastered Trilogy Is More Accessible Than Ever
Having painstakingly recreated all three games from the ground up, the remastered trilogy is the perfect place to jump into the Sam & Max trilogy. It's a good bit more accessible than before, although it's never a bad idea to have a guide handy for some of the trickier puzzles found across the series.
Each entry also brings with it new mechanics, which ensure the experience never gets too predictable as you jump from case to case. The most recent 2024 release of the Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse remaster easily earns its high ratings thanks to the sheer amount of creative gimmicks it introduces to shake up the formula.
If you're looking for another way to get a taste of what Sam & Max has to offer with its comedic style without jumping into a new series, the developers Skunkape Games also just released a remaster for the beloved Poker Night at the Inventory as well.
Given the explosive popularity of the newest remaster compared to the studios' past remakes, it's safe to say that it won't be the last we see of either the poker-themed crossover series or Sam & Max as a whole in the future.
