Starfield is easily one of Bethesda's most divisive and controversial projects in recent memory, and despite many gamers finding it underwhelming or not to their liking, it does have a dedicated and active player-base even after two years since its launch.

While gamers have been hoping for a major "Starfield 2.0" update that would completely rework the game from the ground up, a recent update from Bethesda studio head Todd Howard suggests that changes are indeed on the way, but there won't be a massive overhaul to Starfield anytime soon (via YouTube).

Sorry, But Starfield 2.0 Might Be Off The Table

According to Bethesda boss Todd Howard, Starfield definitely has updates on the way, but they won't be on the scale of a massive Starfield 2.0 overhaul that many gamers have been praying for. Howard has specified that the changes in development for Starfield's next update are for players who "already love the game," and are not necessarily designed to draw in a new audience.

This will come as disappointing news for Starfield 2.0 hopefuls who were keeping their fingers crossed for a massive update that would essentially reinvent gameplay, something akin to Cyberpunk 2077's revamp that gave the game a second wind.

Howard has offered the following statement on Starfield's future: "I can tell everybody we’re gonna be talking about it really soon. We’re moving into a phase where we’re going to be talking about Starfield and really show that in the right way."

That said, Starfield fans who enjoy the game for what it is are in for a big treat in coming months. Though no specific details about what changes are on the way have been provided, it's clear that Starfield does have a future with more content and improved gameplay experiences, likely including performance updates as well.

While there's no official release date or any official confirmation outside of Todd Howard's interview comments regarding Starfield's next update, fans hope it's going to happen sooner rather than later. With so many different projects in the works at the studio and a vast majority of Bethesda developers working on the highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6, it's unclear exactly where Starfield falls on the list of priorities.

That said, Howard sounds optimistic and enthusiastic about Starfield's future, and while he shares an obvious bias on the topic, it's a promising sign for fans that Starfield content is still in the works and that the game hasn't been abandoned completely in favor of other Bethesda priorities.
