Star Wars is filling in a major gap in Andor lore, by telling the story of the doomed hero's "final mission" before his final mission. Remember how viewers were first introduced to Cassian in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with the cold-blooded killing of a compromised Rebel spy? Get ready to learn exactly how Andor ended up there.
Star Wars: Rogue One – Cassian Andor #1 is written by Benjamin Percy, with art by Luke Ross. The new comic series will bridge the end of Andor Season Two and the opening scenes of Rogue One.
That means it will flesh out the story of Cassian's dangerous intel mission to the planet Kafrene, which we know will end in blaster bolts and bloodshed.
The New Andor Series Fills In The Lost Period Between The 2-Season Show And "Rogue One"
Star Wars: Rogue One – Cassian Andor #1, Written By Benjamin Percy; Art By Luke Ross; Available May 6, 2026 From Marvel Comics
Here is the full synopsis for the new Andor comic:
CASSIAN ANDOR’S FINAL MISSION BEFORE HE MEETS HIS ULTIMATE HEROIC DESTINY! Before the heist that shook the galaxy, a lone Rebel operative walks into danger. Cassian Andor infiltrates the lawless maze of Kafrene, racing against troopers, bounty hunters and time itself in a tense espionage thriller.
In other words, it is the perfect kind of Star Wars Expanded Universe story: one that other sources implied, but didn't have time to tell. Andor ends with its protagonist, along with droid sidekick K-2SO, en route to Kafrane. Rogue One features the dramatic end to his mission there.
The new Cassian Andor comic series will fill in the rest. And while Star Wars fans know how it will wind up, the book still has everything it needs to be a gripping standalone story. A story that provides one more necessary beat in Cassian's story before he's officially on the road to self-sacrifice in Rogue One.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was designed as a standalone film, but thanks to Andor, fans can revisit the movie with an entirely new perspective.
The definitive story of Cassian's path to becoming a Rebel has been told. His final days and martyrdom for the fledgling Rebellion have been chronicled. Yet there's still that missing link between the two, which can now fully be told in a way it couldn't before, informed by the beginning and end of Andor's character arc.
The New "Andor" Comic Is The Final Piece Of The Puzzle In Cassian's Story As A Rebel Hero
Catching Cassian Right Up To His Rogue One Introduction
When viewers first met Cassian Andor, he immediately proved he was committed to the Rebellion at all costs. In the context of Rogue One, Andor's murder of his informant, Tivik, authoritatively set the tone for the film. It established as Andor an uncompromising Rebel partisan, and made it clear Rogue One was an uncompromising movie.
[Andor] was a case study in how the character was forged into the consummate Rebel.
Previous Star Wars films were about the heroes fighting an epic battle of good vs. evil against the backdrop of an interstellar war. Rogue One was about the soldiers fighting in that war, the ones who couldn't afford to be morally steadfast. The film's protagonists became Rebel heroes due to their mission's success, but their only motivation was getting the job done.
What made Andor great television was that it was more than just an origin story for Cassian. It was a case study in how the character was forged into the consummate Rebel. It was the Star Wars equivalent of Breaking Bad's Walter White learning he couldn't take half-measures, or Boardwalk Empire's Nucky Thompson learning he couldn't be half a gangster.
Cassian Andor's First Action On Screen Made An Impact On Writer Ben Percy; Now He Gets To Expand That Story
The Pivotal Murder Of Tivik In Rogue One Pays Off
Like most viewers, comic author Benjamin Percy was fired up by Cassian Andor's shocking introduction in Rogue One. A decade later, the moment that sparked his imagination is finally bearing fruit with his new Andor comic series. Here's what Percy had to say:
When we first meet Cassian Andor, he kills Tivik, a rebel informant, in cold blood...I remember looking around the theater, because I could not believe what I was seeing. That moment on the Ring of Kafrene truly made me understand how different this film was going to be, and I knew I wanted to go exactly there for this opening issue....Because there’s a lot happening around the edges that we don’t see.
Meaning, Percy's upcoming series is steeped in the vibe of Rogue One.
That is, it's a war story, one that won't be afraid to take Star Wars in a hardcore direction. For those of you not familiar with his work, this fits Ben Percy's sensibilities to a tee. The author of the "Sabretooth War" arc of Wolverine for Marvel is perfectly up to the task of delivering a gritty Star Wars spy thriller.
And, in the context of Rogue One, what can Percy's Andor add to Star Wars lore? It can make Andor's decision to kill Tivik, in order to keep him from falling into Imperial hands, even harder to make than it appeared. In the movie, Cassian doesn't hesitate, but the comic can emphasis how devastating it was for him to pull the trigger.
"Rogue One" Put The "War" In "Star Wars"; The New "Andor" Series Goes Back To That Mode
An Extended Universe Classic In The Making
Image via DisneyRogue One – Cassian Andor is shaping up to be exactly the kind of Extended Universe story Star Wars fans crave. Author Ben Percy added this in his comments about the book:
I’m paired on this with the brilliant artist Luke Ross and we’re giving you the story of what leads up to that unforgettable, character- and franchise-defining moment. Get ready for bounty hunters, stormtroopers, Krennic, K2, and whole lot at stake for both the rebellion and the Empire.
That is, the comic is more than just one more piece of Andor content; it's a full-blown prequel to Rogue One ten years in the making.
It will tell the tale of Cassian's penultimate mission for the Rebellion, but at the same time, the series has the opportunity to revisit the themes of both Rogue One and Andor and tie those together as well. Which makes it more than just plot and lore that should have Star Wars fans excited for the book.
Star Wars has a rich history of stories that explore the "war" side of the franchise's equation, going back to the franchise's formative Rogue Squadron series of novels and games. Yet that aspect of the franchise has been underserved in the past 10 years, with the exception of Rogue One and Andor, making this new series a must-read for Star Wars fans.
