Michael Forest, a character actor who starred in an iconic episode of Star Trek and appeared on The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Twilight Zone, has died. He was 97.
Forest passed away on Wednesday at a senior assisted living facility in Sparks, Nevada, where he had been residing in recent years, according to Deadline.
His career spanned a period of 65 years with roles on TV and in film, as well as a substantial amount of voiceover work in anime, animated series and video games.
Forest's six-foot-three-inch height and rugged, muscular physique helped him to get cast as larger-than-life, heroic and mythical characters.
He famously starred in four notable Roger Corman movies during the late 1950s and early 1960s including The Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent (1958) and Atlas (1961).
But his most notable role was as the giant Greek god Apollo in the 1967 Star Trek episode titled Who Mourns for Adonais? It stands out as one of the most popular among die-hard fans of the series.
