Fans of the broodiest Spider-Man in existence are in for a real treat this upcoming May with Amazon's Spider-Noir, set to premiere on Prime Video on May 27. However, those looking to watch the new Spider-Man show when it debuts to avoid spoilers may find themselves in a tricky situation: Spider-Noir will be releasing two days before the global Prime Video premiere.
This news comes from Prime Video, which shared in an email that Spider-Noir will "premiere on May 25 on MGM+’s linear channel and globally on Prime Video on May 27."
It had previously been established that the first two episodes of the Spidey spin-off would premiere early on May 25. However, it now seems as though the full series will be available to anyone who has subscribed to MGM Plus — a cable television network in the United States, yes, but also a Prime Video add-on. The big downside is that, despite being an add-on, viewers who want access to the network will need to fork over an extra $7.99 on top of their Prime Video subscription. Seems a bit cheeky, no?
Spider-Noir follows private investigator Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage) as he is forced out of retirement to deal with villains like Sandman and Tombstone. However, instead of the present day, the new series is set in the 1930s, which will no doubt add a unique spin not just to New York but also to the characters audiences meet along the way. That's not the only twist: Spider-Noir will also have a feature that lets audiences choose how they watch the series: in authentic black-and-white to mimic a noir film, or in a true-hue colorized version of a noir classic.
The reveal that Spider-Noir is coming two days early is a huge blow for viewers who aren't willing to splash the cash any more than they already have. Unfortunately, it means that Spider-Man fans who want to avoid spoilers as much as possible will have to avoid social media starting May 25. A blessing in disguise, maybe?
Spider-Noir will be available to stream on MGM+ come May 25, before streaming globally on Prime Video on May 27.
