With just over a month to go until Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the wait for Tom Holland's fourth solo film is nearly over. The new adventure is highly anticipated, as proven by the movie already breaking records for Sony and Marvel Studios. The attention on Brand New Day during the home stretch of its marketing and promotional campaign has kept fans looking for clues about the movie's plot, true villain, and any surprises.

In most instances, what the studios are or are not showing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day's trailers ignites theories. The identity of Sadie Sink's mystery character remains a focal point of discussion, with Jean Grey being the prevailing guess. There is also speculation about if Savage Hulk will truly be green or take on a more gray appearance. Theories about hidden characters, connections to Avengers: Doomsday, and more persist, too.

Sony and Marvel have already kicked off Brand New Day's global press tour, with Tom Holland and Zendaya flying around the globe to promote the movie ahead of its July 31 release. Anything they say will be picked apart as evidence for or against the movie's biggest theories. But in a somewhat unexpected development, a different element of the press tour has caught the eyes of fans because of what it could mean.

Zendaya's Outfits For Spider-Man: Brand New Day Press Have Sparked Symbiote Suit Theories

The attention-grabbing element is none other than Zendaya's outfits. As she's appeared on various red carpets alongside Holland, the predominant use of the color black has not been overlooked. While that's left some questioning if a major death happens by the film's conclusion, there is a larger contingent with a symbiote surprise in mind.

While Holland has switched up his suit's colors with each promo event, Zendaya has consistently worn black outfits. This includes events in Berlin, Amsterdam, and Madrid. She even noticeably wore a black dress with a white spider and web in the center (similar to Spider-Man's symbiote suit design) for one portion of her promotional duties.

Zendaya is known for being international with her stylistic choices. She memorably wore a Doc Ock-inspired dress for a Spider-Man: No Way Home event, and she also wore a white, wedding-like dress for The Drama earlier this year. That's why the consistent use of black for Brand New Day's press has led to theories that the Venom symbiote will somehow be involved in the movie.

It's too early to know for certain if Zendaya is doing this as a purposeful tease or as a way to distract fans and protect other secrets. A glance at Marvel-related sub-Reddits reveals many fans believe Zendaya is teasing Holland's Spider-Man getting the symbiote suit by Brand New Day's conclusion. However, others are not so sure an MCU vet like her would purposefully tease what could be a major spoiler.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man Getting The Symbiote Suit In Brand New Day Would Make Sense

Spider-Man wears his symbiote suit in Marvel's Secret Wars

If Zendaya is preparing fans for a symbiote suit reveal in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there are a few reasons why such a development could be coming now.

Brand New Day's story is directly about Peter struggling personally and as a hero. The imbalance in his life is causing him to change in major ways, with multiple teases that he is lonely and depressed. Peter encountering the black symbiote goo at this point in his life would allow the MCU to continue exploring his personal difficulties and the impact they have on his ability to be Spider-Man.

This would also be a chance to directly pay off Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene. The symbiote being left behind when Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock was transported back to his universe was expected to be a tease of what another movie would entail. But after going down a new route with Hulk, Punisher, The Hand, and possibly Jean Grey, including the symbiote at the end would promise audiences that Marvel hasn't forgotten about this tease.

It would even give Marvel a chance to link Spider-Man's symbiote suit to the comic's origin. The all-black suit debuted in 1984's Secret Wars #8. Holland is not confirmed to be a cast member for Avengers: Secret Wars, but the odds of him appearing are high. Him donning the symbiote Spider-Man suit in a Secret Wars movie, possibly for the first time, would be a comic-accurate development.

Ultimately, Zendaya may be trolling us with these black outfits or teasing something other than the symbiote suit. But if this is what her outfits are meant to make fans think about, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be even bigger for Peter's story than previously understood.
