Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Amazing Spider-Man #23Although Spider-Man and Venom have teamed up many times before in the comics, they've never joined forces quite like this. In the face of new and old threats, a major Spider-Man reveal is set to have some disastrous consequences.
Marvel's new Death Spiral event has just begun with the first issue setting the stage for a major new crossover with Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage at its center. Now, the upcoming second issue will likely see Spider-Man trying to get a hand on some major reveals alongside the all-new Venom (and the symbiote's unexpected host).
Marvel's New Death Spiral Event Is Kicking Off With A Dangerous Spider-Man Reveal
Last week's Death Spiral #1 wasted no time introducing the new Marvel supervillain Torment, a chilling new serial killer with some methodology involving the killing of multiple innocents with shared names as his true, final victims. However, the debut's other big reveal came from Eddie Brock, who called Spider-Man, confirming that Carnage knows he's Peter Parker.
Furthermore, the kicker is that because Spider-Man just got back from a major space adventure, Peter doesn't yet realize that Eddie Brock has been the host of Carnage while Mary Jane Watson has been the all-new Venom for the better part of the last year.
This brings us to the new preview for The Amazing Spider-Man #23 (aka Death Spiral Part 2) from writer Joe Kelly with art by Ed McGuinness, Mark Farmer, and Marcio Menyz.
Interrupting Venom's pursuit of Lady Octopus, it's clear Spider-Man thinks he's dealing with the classic Eddie/Venom pairing. Regardless, it's clear that Spider-Man wants to take care of the Carnage situation as quickly as possible (wouldn't you if a serial-killing symbiote knew who you really were?).
Marvel's New Spider-Man/Venom Team-Up Won't Be Anything We've Seen Before
Without a doubt, it's going to be pretty entertaining to see Spider-Man's reaction to the ultimate love of his life hosting the Venom symbiote, considering all of their baggage (and yes, I'm talking about baggage with MJ AND the Venom symbiote).
Overall, the team-up between the two heroes is bound to be all very unique and exciting, and that's before we throw in Eddie Brock as Carnage. Having joined with the sadistic symbiote to try and keep him under control and only killing serial killers, Eddie believes he can keep Carnage in check.
What Brock doesn't know is Death Spiral #1's reveal that Carnage has secretly been working with Torment while Eddie sleeps, putting the new killer on the path of Peter, Eddie, and Mary Jane simultaneously. As a result, it seems pretty clear that this new team-up is going to be unlike any we've seen from Spider-Man and Venom before.
Amazing Spider-Man #23 releases March 4th from Marvel Comics.

HISTORY The Venom symbiote is an alien organism that first bonded with Peter Parker (Spider-Man) during the "Secret Wars" storyline. After Parker rejected the symbiote, it found a new host in Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist. The symbiote and Brock bonded over their mutual hatred for Spider-Man, becoming the anti-hero known as Venom. Over time, Venom has evolved from a villain to an anti-hero, often fighting alongside other heroes to protect innocents, though his methods remain brutal.
Venom is a symbiotic alien entity bonded with various human hosts, notably Eddie Brock and later Flash Thompson. It grants superhuman strength, agility, and a shape-shifting black costume. Initially a Spider-Man villain due to its origins, Venom evolved into an antihero, battling both villains and his own dark impulses. The character embodies themes of duality and redemption within the Marvel Universe.
